The Director of Test (Quality Assurance) will provide strategic guidance for all aspects of software and hardware testing. Reporting to the VP of Technology directly. The Director of Test (Quality Assurance) will continually interface with key stakeholders in product development and act as the subject matter expert for the QA function. This is a hands-on senior technologist role with responsibilities spanning across new development and QA support for all organized play (Play! Pokémon) web sites and other software projects operated by The Pokémon Company International. This is a high visibility role that will provide strategic direction aligned to the organization’s business and product development goals.
Key hands-on technology leader with responsibilities spanning across all aspects of quality assurance related to software/hardware development including architecture, design, agile development, automation, and release & configuration management
Provide cost inputs for budget projections.
Manage a team of QA professionals with overall mentorship and training/development responsibilities of the QA Team.
Set and communicate team goals, guide performance management, provide coaching and mentoring, and design development plans when needed.
Provide risk mitigation by proactive project planning.
Provide business intelligence reporting for QA analytics, project status, financial budgets, and workforce planning analysis.
Lead, manage, mentor and grow manual and automation test QA teams.
Establish, improve, measure and report quality methodology and processes for all products and services.
Develop, review and execute test plans and test cases that ensure all products meet quality parameters.
Build, select, and maintain QA tools.
Lead, review and document initiative for automation of test cases across all products.
Manage the preparation of product and process quality reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Work closely with other departments including Production Management, Technical Support, Development and Operations to ensure that all phases of the SDLC are meeting or exceeding the requirements and quality standards.
Improve the efficiency of the Quality Assurance organization through effective leadership, individual and group training, and overall process improvement.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
10+ years of QA experience within a software and hardware environment.
5+ years of experience leading and mentoring QA Teams comprised of both manual and automation test engineers.
Experience with Ubuntu Linux, PHP, Apache and MySQL.
Experience testing applications developed in Java, C#/C++, SQL, Bash Shell, Python, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, etc.
Experience operating within an Agile development environment, preferably SCRUM, where 2-week release cycles are implemented.
Experience with Amazon Web Services EC2 highly recommended.
Must be able to assess the impact of changes and determine when the full QA process is appropriate and when changes are trivial enough to require only minimal testing.
Be able to manage and direct at all levels of testing including unit, functional, automation, regression, performance and scalability testing.
Ability to work at a strategic level with key Stakeholders and the Executive Management Team.
Ability to develop budgets tied to achieving organizational goals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Advanced presentation skills, both developing and delivering content.
Proactive, self-starter.
Ability to remain calm under pressure
Education
BS in Computer Science or the equivalent technical education and experience required; MS is desired.
