Responsibilities will include managing, motivating and developing a team of engineers whose primary responsibility is to design, implement and deliver the company's innovative next-generation hardware platform. This department is also responsible for ongoing enhancement and sustaining of the company's existing hardware platforms. This Director will work closely with engineering development managers, program managers, Product marketing managers and other team members to direct the product design and to create effective development, test, release and support strategies.

This position supervises approximately 35 employees across two sites: Honolulu, Hawaii and Calabasas, California. The team is managed through a structure of two Senior Managers and four first line managers. This position will report to the Senior Director of Platform Engineering.

The ideal candidate would be located in Calabasas, California or Honolulu, Hawaii.

Job Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include:
Oversee the project management activities for products under development including project scheduling, resource allocation, ongoing risk management, ongoing project tracking, cross-functional issue resolution and regular project status reporting.
Interact with other engineering departments and product marketing to ensure proper product planning and handoff of deliverables.
Work with Engineering Management and Product Marketing to help define new products and ensure engineering feasibility. Create project plans to implement new products.
Understand the technical tradeoffs that are being made during the engineering design process and contribute to the decision process to resolve these tradeoffs.
Understand Spirent customer needs and address feedback and issues from customers. This may be in the form of an engineering product response or communications with the customer.
Oversee the technical opportunities and career development for the members of the Hardware Development team.
Create an engineering culture of innovation and execution of results in a team oriented environment.
Job Requirements:

Education

BS or MS degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering is required. An advanced degree or certification in management is preferred.

Experience/Knowledge

At least 10 years in engineering development and management.
Extensive knowledge in digital electronics and development tools. Networking Technologies including Ethernet, IP v4/v6, TCP. Networking standards including 802.3 preferred.
Management of large engineering groups.
Must be a good written and verbal communicator.
Ability to understand engineering tradeoffs.
