The Director of Industrial Design provides leadership and management to the team, which includes conceptual development, visual design and graphic production. This person will manage multiple projects through all stages of development: from incubation to final production and is responsible for overall quality, innovation and creative vision.

This person will mentor, guide and inspire the Industrial Design team. On individual projects, the person will integrate business requirements into strategies, marketing and aesthetic interests. The Director will also lead development of new business, develop and build discipline capabilities.

Essential Functions:
Lead and manage the Industrial Design team
Know the ins and outs of all team projects to ensure design solutions are on strategy and deliverables are met on time and with high level of quality
Lead projects from concept through completion
Close collaboration with internal team leaders and cross functional teams
Bring a high level of design standards, practice and aesthetics to all design solutions and executions
Possess good communication skills to build partnerships with internal and external teams
Drive the creative strategy to support company goals by collaborating with senior leadership on all current and future initiatives
Promote SDA with the design of a new business presentation
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design or equivalent, Master’s Degree preferred
Skills Required:
Skilled in negotiation and setting expectations against real-world limitations
Accomplished in the manufacturing process of diverse products
Passionate about creating extremely high standards for design
Innovative, responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment
Manage cross-disciplinary teams to contribute to the conceptualization, design and specification of innovative consumer products
Proven ability to apply and perform design skills (i.e. drawing/sketching, ideation, use of texture, spacing and scale, visual presentation development, layout, multimedia and digital)
Demonstrated ability to apply creative skills in innovative ways that elevate brand excellence
Knowledge of trends influencing design in general
Experience collaborating with UX Designers/Researchers, Engineers and Product folks and managing contractors and vendors
Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with various teams in different locations
Years of Experience:
12 or more years of professional experience as an industrial/product designer
5 or more years experience leading teams that have done cutting edge design work while meeting aggressive deadlines
Travel:
International and Domestic travel is required
