This position has the primary responsibility within the Sony Music organization for setting and monitoring SME’s global finance policies in line with US GAAP and Sony Corporate policy; providing technical accounting interpretation and support to SME finance management and business units; supporting an anticipated SME conversion to IFRS; implementing new accounting standards and overseeing various financial reporting obligations. This position is a key member of the Global Finance Policy, compliance and reporting team based in NYC.

Accounting Policy
Establish and maintain SME global finance policies. Ensure compliance with US GAAP and Sony Corporate policies.
Monitor, assess and implement new accounting standards across SME (including in the near term Revenue Recognition and Leases).
Work with international Business Units and domestic Labels to communicate accounting guidance, policy interpretation and compliance.
Review deal documents to determine and document accounting for significant transactions and contracts, including acquisitions and disposals, impairments, consolidation, significant revenue and artist agreements.
Review and analysis of new digital contracts with Digital Service Providers in the US and internationally for appropriate accounting treatment.
Support and document SME interpretation of technical guidance and write technical accounting memos.
Communicate and coordinate with external auditors on audit issues and key accounting questions.
Reporting Matters
Oversight and coordination of international/consolidated pension reporting (actuaries).
Oversee preparation of various reports for Sony Tokyo (Corporate Accounting Policies, Financial Statement Disclosure Checklists, support for financial statement footnote disclosures, completion of various quarterly and annual forms for SEC reporting at the Sony Corporate level).
IFRS Conversion
Assess and document impact of transition to IFRS under direction of Sony Corporation, Sony Music’s parent company.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Accounting/Finance
CPA a must
Minimum of 5 years of finance/accounting experience.
Some public accounting experience preferred
Strong technical accounting skills
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Ability to interact with senior-level executives.
Previous experience in the music, entertainment or media industry preferred
Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word and Powerpoint
