As a Director of Enterprise Architecture Governance and Emerging Technology at Capital One, you’ll work with architecture teams across the enterprise to drive collaboration, improve communication, adopt best practices, and establish governance and compliance standards for the enterprise, ensuring strong alignment of goals, objectives, and processes overall. Additional responsibilities will include understanding, introducing, and advising on the process for adoption of new technologies in order to improve efficiency and consistency, and to reduce redundant systems and costs.
Watch: Career Advice Reporting to the Vice President of Enterprise Architecture, this Director will influence how the Enterprise Architecture team will grow into next generation technologies including cloud, machine learning, and big data.
Key responsibilities and challenges for this executive include:
- Provide strategic and architecture consultation, advise and guide the definition and/or design of business processes, functions and organizational structures, as well as in researching, identifying and internally marketing enabling technologies based on customer requirements.
- Understand Capital One’s business objectives and define comprehensive enterprise architecture (business, data, applications, technology) to support the strategy and business outcomes.
- Enhancement and development of the Enterprise Architecture discipline: develop case studies to demonstrate value, promote the EA process, outcomes and results to the organization, including the enterprise’s technology and business leaders.
- Build relationships across each LOB to foster best practices and improve communication/collaboration between the groups.
- Persuade team members to buy into the value of collaboration, demonstrate the benefits of a strategy, and drive adoption of best practices and technology.
- Remove roadblocks for governance and operations to be effective and sized correctly for the new technology being introduced to the enterprise.
- Be comfortable in a hands-on environment working closely with technical team members in an advisory and leadership capacity.
- Leading and coordinating architectural review meetings, and work closely with the Divisional Chief Architects to contribute to Enterprise Chief Architect meetings.
- Work with Architects across all lines of business to establish common practices, communication, coordination of efforts, and alignment of goals for two key areas:
Emerging Technologies – introduce and advise on the process for adoption and integration of new technologies; create a new technology roadmap that ensures consistent practices, collaboration, and drives efficiency.
Guidelines/Best Practices – establish appropriate standards for governance, compliance, and process in a model that is consistent across the enterprise.

- Strong understanding and experience of Enterprise Architecture facilitation, organizational change management, guidelines, process, and governance.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or Military experience
- At least 10 years of experience in Enterprise Architecture
- At least 3 years of experience leading an Architecture team, ideally in a heavily regulated industry sector.
- At least 5 years of experience in the development and execution of target architectures and roadmaps while adhering to target architecture in support of the business.
- At least 5 years of experience leading architecture in a large, federated, multinational business model.
– At least 3 years of experience working to improve standards and governance processes while providing leadership to architects across the organization for a domain or a line of business.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management, or other Engineering fields.
- 3 years of experience in the financial services and banking industry.
