JTI USA is presently seeking a Legal Director to advise our business units on all legal matters affecting the US tobacco business with the aim of achieving corporate/commercial objectives in a matter that ensures compliance with the law and appropriate management of legal risk. Acting as a member of the management team for the US tobacco markets, the incumbent will support all functions to find the most optimal way to execute company strategies and goals in order to sustain the business growth.

Responsibilities
· Advising on all challenging and complex matters including commercial law and instructing external counsel and advisors where necessary
· Building and maintaining strong working relationships within the Market, Region and HQ, and understanding in full business needs and strategic plans so as to provide pro-active and valued advice and to enable the company to operate in a manner that is compliant with all applicable laws and regulations.
· Work closely with all other functions and provide ongoing legal and strategic advice on legal issues to manage and mitigate legal risk
· Develop, deploy and manage legal policies and procedures and training as required by HQ, the Region or as necessary for the US business. This includes but is not limited to establishing and refining internal procedures and programs to help ensure compliance of company's activities with the applicable laws and global guidelines as well as development of an internal contract management system ensuring an efficiency of the process
· Advise on the complex regulatory regime in the US, including FDA legislation, regulation and guidance as well as all other applicable regulations and regulatory measures.
· Provision of advice to business to ensure compliance of JTI products’ packaging layouts / marketing materials / consumer programs etc. with the applicable legal requirements, federal and state law as well as company policy.
· Ensure appropriate corporate governance is in place for JTI's US group companies
· Govern and manage relationships with external legal advisors including management of legal budget
· Ensure the timely and efficient management of litigation instituted by or against the company
Qualifications & Experience
JD from accredited law school or equivalent education; admission to a state bar (with the ability to become licensed as in-house counsel in NJ if not otherwise licensed in NJ)
6+ years of practice in a top law firm or both in a top law firm and in-house
Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills
