Job Description:
International Justice Mission (IJM) is a fast-growing international organization working to protect some of the most vulnerable and oppressed people from violent forces of injustice by securing rescue and restoration for victims and ensuring public justice systems work for the poor. IJM is seeking a talented leader to ensure the general ledger accurately and thoroughly captures the activity of its nearly 20 overseas field offices.
This position leads a team of high caliber headquarters- and field-based staff who train and support field office accountants, convert and upload monthly results and review field office finance documents and practices for compliance with established policies and procedures. The successful candidate will also have opportunity to participate in the design and implementation of a global ERP system. This position is based at IJM headquarters in the Washington DC area and reports to the Senior Director, International Finance.
Responsibilities
Field Office Accounting
Direct a team of managers, distributing responsibilities and balancing work load to ensure objectives are met and staff have opportunity for professional development;
Lead monthly field office reporting, including receipt, review, and general ledger recording of all income, expenses, and balance sheet items to ensure compliance with GAAP;
Guide team in obtaining data, resolving anomalies, assisting with proper account coding, ensuring consistency among HQ and field office financial records;
Ensure team resolves any outstanding, irreconcilable, uncategorized, or improperly categorized transactions and instructs field offices on adjustments for any errors;
Recommend policy and procedural changes and alternative strategies to continuously improve field office accounting; communicate and implement new procedures and strategies.
Audit/Compliance
In collaboration with the Field Office Finance team, ensure assigned field offices’ expenditures are adequately documented, supported, authorized and accurately recorded;
Ensure information from the field is collected, organized and analyzed as needed for the annual independent financial audit;
Policies/Training/Resources
In collaboration with the Director, Field Office Finance, ensure accounting policies that affect field offices are thoroughly documented and accessible;
Communicate observations of and recommendations for field office accounting training needs to the Director, Field Office Finance;
Lead in the application of technology and tools to optimize productivity, accuracy and usefulness of accounting records;
Ensure field office accounting needs are addressed in the GBES-ERP project;
Complete other projects as assigned.
Desired Skills and Experience

Potential occasional travel to field offices in the developing world.
Required Skills and Experience
Licensed CPA with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance;
At least five years’ experience as an accounting or audit manager, with three years’ experience in an international environment;Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and foreign currency conversion methodologies;
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven experience successfully building and supervising a team of accounting professionals;
Proven capacity to accurately and objectively evaluate the effectiveness of tactics and activities in achieving desired outcomes, and experience in implementing appropriate adjustments;
Exceptional oral and written presentation and communication skills;
ERP experience a plus.
