Key Qualifications

8+ years of relevant experience including 2+ years in a people management role
Hands-on technical leader that contributes to technical vision, software architecture, process improvements and strategic direction to deliver durable and practical big data platforms.
Significant hands-on experience with big data engineering on HDFS, Cassandra and traditional database platforms.
Experience in digital media a significant plus.
Description

Responsibility Overview: - Build and support a durable big data platform that processes and integrates data streams from multiple source systems. Analytics and Data Science teams will be the primary consumers. - Conceive and implement a multi-year data engineering roadmap working with internal partners from engineering, data warehouse and analysis/data science functions. - Own the end to end roadmap for this function from conceptual architecture through implementation and support. - Hire, coach and manage deeply skilled teams. - Ensure that projects are aligned with business priorities including Apple’s privacy policy and position on protecting customer data. - Provide project oversight of timelines, budgets, and resources in support of roadmap, including outsourced partner/suppliers. Key Skills: - Proven technical architectural decision maker using technologies such as Hadoop, Cassandra, Java, Python, Spark, Hive and Kafka. - The data engineering manger should be able to develop rapid prototypes and proof of concepts to facilitate decision making. - Experience with all aspects of big data systems including database design, ETL, aggregation strategy, performance optimization, service layer development, UI/UX, reporting and analysis tools. - Capable of working closely with business teams to ensure tight alignment of business priorities and data engineering roadmap/deliverables.

Education

B.S. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Engineering or equivalent [M.S. preferred]
