Director Cloud Operations PlayStation Network San Francisco

PlayStation Network is looking for a top notch hands on leader to help lead Cloud Technology & Operations group that is responsible for delivering network services to PlayStation ecosystem. You will be responsible for Cloud Technology, Cloud Automation, and Cloud Operations of services that power PlayStation ecosystem.
Own the Cloud Operations function for PlayStation Network cloud services group in San Francisco – hire, grow team, establish global cloud strategy for scaling, redundancy, fault tolerance, automation, and keep systems up with 99.99% up time.
Our cloud serves hundreds of millions of PlayStation consoles, TVs, and variety of mobile devices.
Opportunity to work in a complex, high traffic system and be given the freedom to create this system the “right way”. We really want this role to “own” this side of our platform and build and be responsible for making our platform awesome and reliable.
You will manage a strong team consisting of senior DevOps architects, DevOps engineers, and managers.
You will partner with other development directors on system architecture for new product innovation.
Responsibilities:
Own the uptime and reliability and availability of our PlayStation ecosystem.
Own the AWS cloud infrastructure, what we use, where we use it, how much it costs and how we can constantly improve it
Build and own Tier3, Tier2, & Tier1 teams.
Own system architecture that documents systems, redundancy (BCP), and fault tolerance.
Own monitoring, alerting and on-call schedules used by the entire team.
Coordinate and plan ops-specific projects within the ops team
Coordinate with other teams the operations requirements for the other engineering projects


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
Deep expertise in systems-level and large scale systems programming: storage and file systems, networking, clustering technologies, and distributed systems.
Great design and problem solving skills, and not intimidated by debugging across thousands of machines.
Experience with automation using Chef/Puppet. Awareness of CI/CD using AWS Code Commit, AWS Code Pipeline, and AWS Code Deploy is a plus.
Strong believer in container model of deployment automation. Experience with Docker containers is a plus; strong on processes, people management, and in attracting top talent. We like people that bring their trusted talent to augment our existing talent.
You are proactive about everything. We want people who are smarter than us, building a system that is far better than anything we can do ourselves. You are the kind of person that looks for things to make better and you can work independently.
You are willing to “carry the pager” but you are also striving to build such a kick-ass system that you never need the pager.
You’ve worked in system of scale before with lots of servers (1000+), lots of moving parts and a complicated infrastructure (meaning different languages, services, protocols).
Demonstrated experience shipping products on time with high quality; development experience with online service is a must.
Experience in cloud based development on AWS is a big plus
Experience with variety of technologies such as Cassandra, MySQL, MemCache, Apache, Tomcat, Kafka, Spark, is a strong plus; experience in system and functional monitoring is a huge plus.
