Director Program Management Platform Transformation American Express Phoenix

Job Description:
This position reports directly to the Chief Enterprise Architect and is responsible for helping drive key growth opportunities across American Express through the Platform Transformation initiative. This includes routinely working with senior American Express Technology (AET) leadership at CIO, Company Platform Owner and Company Platform Architect levels to ensure optimal alignment of platform resources against critical growth investments and value-driven outcomes.
This includes utilizing federated, cross-functional teams to ensure the desired enterprise-level results are being achieved, actively participating in long range strategic planning and clearly identifying, refining and articulating the program’s on-going value proposition and progress towards goals to participants and stakeholders. Key responsibilities include (but not limited to): Actively partnering with key stakeholders to identify and prioritize enterprise-level program work efforts and outcomes • Setting priorities and milestones for Company Platform Owners to meet strategic objectives • Providing direct leadership and influential guidance to cross-functional teams • Building collaborative relationships at all levels of AET • Quickly driving the resolution of conflicts and creating alignment where needed • Establishing and clearly communicating program strategy, objectives and progress to key stakeholders • Acting as the primary point of contact and escalation point for the Platform Transformation initiative • Applying financial, quality and compliance oversight to assigned portfolio • Communicating program strategy and outcome progress to senior leaders • Taking responsibility for on-going financial oversight and reporting across the department • Leading a team of direct reports who identify potential enterprise level opportunities through analysis of platform investments and strategic roadmaps • Delivering effective executive level presentations both in person and through virtual channels.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the proven ability to set enterprise-level priorities in order to meet strategic Company Platform goals and objectives, including the ability to ‘manage upward’ by influencing senior leaders. They must also be able to negotiate and align with all levels of the organization in support of the strategic vision set not only for each Company Platform, but for all Company Platforms in aggregate. This must be demonstrated by proven collaboration skills, along with the ability to influence without authority. Required education and experience include: Bachelor’s Degree in related field (advanced degree preferred) • Prior formal leadership experience in managing large programs with proven successful outcomes • Strong track record of driving multiple projects/programs simultaneously with demonstrated skill at handling change and risk management • Financial management experience, including cost center management, cost benefit analysis, project budget management, resource planning and reporting for large scale programs • Extensive experience in providing effective executive-level verbal and written communication • Practical experience in effective time management, including the ability to prioritize and managing competing priorities of both self and direct reports • People leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, and conflict resolution • PMI Project Management Professional, Certified Scrum Master or comparable industry certification a plus.
