General Manager - Manufacturing - Gigafactory - Panasonic - Reno


Job description

Panasonic Corporation will cooperate with Tesla Motors, Inc. to construct a large-scale advanced battery manufacturing facility known as the Gigafactory in the state of Nevada.
Panasonic's role in the Gigafactory will be to manufacture and supply cylindrical lithium-ion cells and invest in the associated equipment, machinery, and other manufacturing tools based on the battery demand from Tesla.
Tesla will take the cells and other components to assemble battery modules and packs. The Gigafactory will produce battery modules mainly for Tesla's electric vehicles. The Gigafactory is planned to produce 35GWh of cells.



SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the production, quality and equipment maintenance operations for Lithium Ion Cell production by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Establishment of system and management of operation management, process improvement, and equipment maintenance for consistent production and operation improvement

Establishment of system and management for making production plan and achievement of production plan

Establishment of system and management of quality control for defective outflow prevention, and approach of loss reduction

Establishment of system and management of delivery date compliance 100% including stock control

Establishment of system and management of the educational training system for operation only with local people

Directs the daily ongoing operations of the manufacturing process to meet or exceed the production, quality and maintenance goals.
Reviews production costs and product quality, and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division.

Directs preparation of appropriate records.

Develops and recommends budgets to upper management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages multiple subordinate supervisors on all shifts who supervises a total of (TBD) employees in the Production, Quality, and Machinery (Maintenance) departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises (TBD) non-supervisory employee(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems following the company's established Policies and Procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree is required; with ten or more years related manufacturing factory experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's Degree is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, suppliers and customers, and inter-company staff from Japan. Japanese language skills preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
