Director Policy Communications Expedia Washington

Job Description:
The Director of Policy Communications will have strategic oversight of, and responsibility for, crafting and sustaining Expedia's public policy communications operations. Key components of the role will be proactively engaging media and interfacing with stakeholders at the governmental and local level to provide messaging and background information to help global audiences understand Expedia's policy positions.
This role requires significant experience with the media, government, and regulatory agencies as well as the ability to understand technical concepts in the fast-paced e-commerce and digital space.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop, manage, and lead the execution of internal and external communications programs in support of Expedia's public policy operations
Educate the press, policymakers and other outside groups on the value of Expedia as an effective travel technology platform for consumers, corporations and small businesses
Establish and foster local, regional, and national media relationships by serving as a trusted source and educator about Expedia, Inc. brands' public policy positions and initiatives
Seek opportunities to further Expedia's engagement in public policy, technology, and corporate reputation issues
Lead the development of public policy messaging material and the commissioning of studies and analyses
Drive crisis management programs with a public policy component and serve as key communications counselor on crisis issues
Serve as the spokesperson for Expedia's public policy priorities and initiatives;
Leverage third-party service providers, including trade associations, consultants and academia in the service of Expedia's public affairs objectives
Work closely with the business public relations team to ensure continuity of messaging; and undertake a range of other activities in support of Expedia's mission
In this role, you must be (I) successful with national, local, industry, and technology media engagement; (II) highly collaborative; (III) comfortable working in a fast-paced operating environment; and (iv) able to employ good judgment, flexibility, critical thinking and a practical approach.

Proven Ability To:
• Develop creative, effective approaches to difficult communications challenges
• Exercise high judgment, particularly in narrow timeframes
• Think and communicate clearly - formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues and create a concise and well-written narrative to express it

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree
• Previous experience on Capitol Hill or other relevant government service preferred
• Extensive communications and public affairs experience with technology public policy issues
• Experience integrating public policy with business strategy
• Experience serving as a spokesperson on complex policy issues
• High proficiency in writing, creative thinking, multi-tasking and collaboration
