Director Communications Global Intellectual Property U.S. Chamber of Commerce Washington

Job Description:
Lead GIPC’s day-to-day media outreach and broaden awareness and increase the visibility of the Chamber and GIPC and its intellectual property (IP) policy agenda. As part of the GIPC leadership team, play an active role in the strategic managerial and administrative functions of the Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as spokesperson for GIPC to the media and manage its internal and external communications; initiate, develop, and deliver short- and long-term media campaigns to build press awareness and coverage of GIPC issues, programs, and events; write and clear written reports, including press releases, media advisories, op-eds, and executive briefings; research and implement ways to leverage new and emerging media technologies to strengthen public awareness of key issues among target audiences; work with the Chamber’s Communications Division and board to coordinate and unify IP messaging; write and coordinate public comments and speeches, talking points, and communications for executives; prepare staff for media interviews and draft communications; and develop and manage budgetary and other resources to achieve goals.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree and 8-10 years’ related experience in communications, multimedia, or public relations; excellent written and verbal communications skills; creative self-starter with experience pitching and successfully landing stories; comfortable with public speaking; ability to develop unified messages around policy issues under tight deadlines in a fast-paced and complex work environment; strong proofreading and organizational skills; the ability to effectively interact with senior-level executives, outside contacts and vendors, and stakeholders; familiarity with IP issues; a track record of effective leadership and collaboration in addressing public policy issues; knowledge of website management and social media, with a solid network of media contacts in and around D.C. Background in journalism and/or content and project management preferred.
