Director Editorial WebMD New York City

Job Description:
The Editorial Director (ED) will plan and execute Medscape's core content plan for various Medscape specialty sites, including Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. In this role, the ED is also responsible for developing a strategy to engage physicians and other healthcare professionals in these specialties, working closely with other editors in related specialties.
Focused on driving specialist engagement through the creation and posting of compelling features, the ED will recruit authors and develop recurring columns and special features in these specialties. The ED is responsible for supporting traffic targets by specialty and tracking progress against goals.
Strategic content planning and budget management for sites
Communicating with site advisors and site advisory board
Content and faculty planning; solicitation of authors; management of contractual arrangements, payment, and follow-up (with Associate Editor)
Clinical editing, coordination with copyediting and production review
Site updating (homepage, core resource centers, other features as needed)
Preparation of weekly and special MedPulse newsletters
Publisher’s Circle (partner journal) article selections and oversight of indexers
Monitoring social media sites (Medscape Twitter and FB feeds in these specialties) as well as site discussion boards and reports on trends, issues, and concerns as appropriate
Coordinating with social media editor to ensure that Medscape maintains an active and engaging experience
Reviewing site traffic trends and revising content plans based on traffic needs
Communicating with Marketing to develop surveys, special reports, and other traffic-driving special initiatives
Testing innovations on sites (new content, new formats)
Communicating and collaborating with government agencies, professional societies re partnerships, core content (via Professional Relationships group)
Managing partner content and partner pages
Attending and covering key professional specialty meetings as needed
Ensuring that information on sites is up-to-date and relevant


Clinical and/or editorial experience in above specialties strongly preferred. Conversant with key/emerging issues in prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Bachelors degree (medical or science related degree preferred)or equivalent years of experience
5+ years of experience with a medical print or online publication
Expertise of AMA style, ability to integrate with Medscape style
Familiarity with Web publishing and basic website analytics.
