Director Digital Social Strategy Walton Isaacson Chicago

Job Description:
In this newly created role, WI is seeking a dynamic, creative and motived Director of Digital and Social Strategy to lead and drive digital and social programs for a variety of clients. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing strategic multi-channel programs spanning web, mobile, and social media, and oversee execution of initiatives across channel development, engagement, content planning, amplification and optimization.

Working closely with the account, planning, creative and digital practice teams, the candidate will have a deep understanding of the digital/social landscape, trends and platforms relevant to a broad range of categories and audiences, from general market to multicultural. The candidate should have experience developing strategic programs including web and application development, social media activation and platform engagement, influencer and advocacy programs, and content marketing. The individual should be a creative thinker and have a passion for innovation across new channels.



This role requires familiarity and knowledge of the ever-changing digital landscape from platforms and CMS options to new social and display opportunities and technologies. In addition to having a clear understanding of how to align a program’s objectives to the client’s business objectives and consumers’ needs, the Director, Digital and Social Strategy must be able to interpret and drive innovation based on strategic insights.



Core Responsibilities

Design and implement the creation of strategic digital/social programs and guide the execution plan

Take broad concepts and strategy and translate them into meaningful, actionable and understandable operating plans for internal teams and clients

Deliver insights on emerging trends and digital/social strategies for the multicultural consumer as well as general market

Deep understanding of digital development and production including timelines, budgets and trouble shooting

Working with creative and production teams, oversee web and application development from concept to execution, including needs analysis, design, usability and optimization

Identify, source and manage providers, platforms and third-party vendors

Establish success metrics and KPIs; Identify ways to measure success against the campaign goals and achievable outcomes, as well as facilitate reporting based on those along with writing insights and recommendations

Work closely with account teams to identify new opportunities in the space for clients and potential clients alike

Actively participate in new business initiatives and pitches

Serve as internal thought leader and contribute to WI’s external thought leadership through participation in blog content, features, and events

Manage and mentor junior digital/social staff; provide professional development recommendations within this team and greater organization



Desired Skills and Experience
8-10 years digital marketing experience. Agency preferred

Deep understanding of social media marketing strategy and best practices across community management, content marketing, and word of mouth programs

Comprehensive technical understanding of web development/planning, social media, display advertising, mobile platforms, email marketing, etc.

Must understand behaviors and best practices of consumers in the digital, mobile and social channels

Experience working with clients and translating complex digital and social plans into high level strategy

A basic understanding of other marketing channels (print, ooh, experiential, etc.) and their seamless intersections with the interactive/digital world

Strong understanding of user research, user-centric design principles, and online consumer behavior

Excellent project prioritization and organizational skills

Dynamic problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly lead internal teams, working closely with agency-wide project management, creative and account management teams

Motivated to implement change in processes to improve our way of doing business

High level understanding of: Wordpress, HTML5, CSS, etc
