Job Description:
The Director of Counseling and Programming collaborates with the Executive Director to formulate long-term strategic plans regarding operations, staffing, budget, program and service development, office and campus-wide events, and campus and external relations.
Participate in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating associate directors, assistant directors, and professional and support staff
Manage staff on Wilf campus to create and implement new initiatives as well as maintain and enhance existing programs and services. Manage scheduling, logistics, and marketing of seminars and special events on both Manhattan campuses
Assist Executive Director in managing office budget and making major budget decisions, impacting special events, programs, and services. Assist Executive Director in overall operational management of office including formulating and enforcing policies, developing systems and procedures for provision of services, and overseeing maintenance of statistics and preparation of reports as needed
Research and compile educational information from journals, publications, and government reports/studies to strengthen professional theoretical foundation and knowledge
Serve as a resource for students, alumni, parents, employers, and university constituents including faculty and administrators for interpretation of policies and job market trends. Serve as liaison between Career Center and student clubs/organizations (e.g. student government, academic clubs, social/cultural clubs)
Attend professional development workshops to improve counseling and technical skills
Represent Career Center and facilitate presentations on career-related topics at professional conferences including NACE, EACE, and MNYCCPOA
Identify and analyze student needs and develop counseling and seminar programs and services accordingly. Identify and address students’ needs to determine career planning and/or job readiness
Supervise associate directors and assistant directors in the development, management, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services on both campuses
Research, develop, and write relevant educational and organizational materials to support programs. Maintain integrity and quality of programs. Research, target, and contact potential sources of funding; write funding proposals
Coordinate special events, including logistics and vendor relationships. Identify and secure guest speakers and moderate panels for academic and career programs
Investigate, select, and acquire career-related materials (e.g. books, skills-training videos, publications) for resource library and use in programs
Develop and implement evaluation surveys used for program revision
Design data collection instruments; gather and compile statistics for evaluative purposes
Lead team to connect Career Center to the University community including deans, advisors, and faculty (from Yeshiva College, Stern College, and Sy Syms School of Business) to discuss employment trends, student concerns, and new programs and seminars
Convene meetings with University student leaders to assess career related needs and concerns, initiate new programs and services, and plan new collaborative efforts with the Yeshiva University student body
Represent Career Center at University events to encourage University enrollment and student involvement
Counsel and advise undergraduates and alumni individually and in groups on issues related to career/life planning strategies
Evaluate skills, interests, values, personality attributes, and experience using professional assessment instruments such as Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
Meet with upper level management and alumni from a variety of industries to establish and strengthen relationships with Career Center, promote Yeshiva University students and programs, and identify full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities
Communicate with upper level management and alumni to ascertain their staffing needs, gather information regarding organizational profiles and programs, recruiting policies and procedures, and to coordinate programs
Recommend/refer qualified candidates for specific job vacancies (including internships and volunteer opportunities) and on-campus recruiting schedules
Solicit feedback from employers on student interview performance
Advocate for students as employees regarding job applications, interviewing, hiring, salary negotiations, and transitional issues
Oversee screening of jobs and distribution of resumes to employers, including maintenance of databases and resume referral services
Attend Yeshiva alumni events to promote Career Center’s programs and services and to network with alumni in order to gain their participation in special events and mentoring relationships
Experience and Educational Background
Master's degree in counseling, psychology, education, human resources, or related field
5-7 years of career development, counseling, student personnel, human resources, or equivalent experience
