Director Accounting Wholesale Commerce Nike Portland

Job Description:
As the ACCOUNTING DIRECTOR, NORTH AMERICA WHOLESALE COMMERCE (OTC), you will be responsible – in partnership with the Global Commerce/Revenue Controlling (OTC) team – for building an accounting model and control system for revenues and receivables for the North America geography and its respective legal entities. Our long-term growth agenda, coupled with the increase in complexity of our global integrated marketplace, requires new capabilities, processes and systems to ensure financial accuracy of revenues, receivables and related judgmental reserves and to drive end-to-end OTC processes on a consistent and global basis.

You will also lead the integration of North America’s revenues and receivables accounting into a center-led, global accounting offense. You will drive business partnership with North America Commerce and Customer Financial Services (CFS) organizations, along with enabling business strategies via management of the Commerce (OTC) accounting team.

Key responsibilities of this role:

• Develop high profile, influential and collaborative relationships across NIKE North America, Global Commerce, CFS and Global Accounting leadership. Leadership of North America’s Wholesale Commerce Accounting (OTC) team.

1) People and Organizational Leadership

• Champion and steward the Global Accounting OTC Value Stream transformation within the North America organization and collaborate and advise on the future state operating and organizational model.

• Perform baseline and periodic assessment of organizational performance against critical work streams and develop key metrics and measures of performance/success against effectiveness, efficiency and risk optimization aligned to the Global Accounting strategy while promoting a lean, continuous improvement culture.

• Play a key leadership role on the Global Accounting, North America Controlling + Finance, and North America Commerce leadership teams, driving manager excellence to LEAD, COACH, DRIVE and INSPIRE.

2) Business Insights / Decision Support

• Advise and partner with cross-functional leadership teams on commercial practices, third-party arrangements, technical accounting, process and control considerations, with respect to revenue and revenue related accounts and processing streams as they execute on business strategies.

• Own and collaborate cross-functionally on the design and implementation of new accounting policies, processes, systems, controls and commercial practices across North America’s commerce operations.

• Influence and inform Global Accounting Policy through collaboration with Global Accounting OTC team in regards to technical accounting decisions, transaction processes, systems, controls and compliance for revenue related accounts and processes.

3) Technical and Operational Excellence

• Own and is accountable for the end-to-end financial process and systems governance, controls and compliance across North America‘s revenue recognition and technical considerations around the integrated marketplace business models and implementation of the new revenue recognition standards in accordance with US GAAP and NIKE Accounting Policy.

• Participate in review of monthly, quarterly and annual operation strategies and results with business leadership, both in Controlling and Commerce; drive and deliver insights around commercial best practices and add value as a credible and trusted business partner

• Ensure key financial assertions are met with respect to revenue and revenue related accounts through development/maintenance of a comprehensive control structure across the OTC process.

• Maintain and drive continuous LEAN improvement, while collaborating with others, on owned processes to drive greater efficiency and effectiveness; define and drive the execution of best practices.

• Own and engage with transition management team on adapting applicable process, policy and tool changes for the North America geography.

Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA required
• 10+ years' extensive experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, or transaction services/financial business process consulting; experience within a large multinational, publically-held company required
• 5+ years' proven people management experience
• Strong US GAAP experience and technical accounting knowledge, with focus on revenue accounting strongly preferred
• Strong commercial and business acumen, with ability to translate business requirements into financial risks and controls
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to assess financial risks and controls across end to end business and operational processes
• Experience with identifying and applying complex accounting treatment to business arrangements
• Experience with and ability to work collaboratively and influence cross-functionally
• Experience with large scale transformational initiatives, process improvements or shared services capabilities
• Ability to influence and inform stakeholders on complex technical topics
• Proven capabilities to build and develop a high performing team
• Ability to innovate and navigate through ambiguity
• Experience with local statutory reporting
• Experience with SAP
