Executive Director CARS Program Stanford University San Francisco

Job Description:
The Center for Automotive Research at Stanford (CARS) seeks an Executive Director who will work with faculty, staff and industry affiliates to identify areas of common interest and build innovative programs, projects and educational experiences around these topics. The Executive Director will lead the continued development of the Automotive Innovation Facility into a catalyst for open innovation and teaching, balancing its roles as realization space and laboratory. The Executive Director will also facilitate over 30 affiliate partner relationships, actively seeking opportunities for campus researchers to connect with industry.

The preferred candidate is a creative professional who looks at challenges in new ways, connects meaningfully with diverse groups of partners and evolves with us on our human-centric mobility journey. The Executive Director should genuinely enjoy working with students, faculty and professionals and creating new and interesting connections across this community. Our team is small and collaborative with members willing to take on whatever task is necessary to ensure mission success. The ideal candidate for this position will be a core member of that team, providing both leadership and support to others.

Core Duties*

Lead and oversee development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of programs. Oversee analysis, reporting, and program improvements. Oversee the development, adherence to, and implementation of program policies and procedures.

Lead strategic planning for CARS.

Represent CARS to the broader university, external community, and other stakeholders. Provide expert consultation related to program development, funding opportunities, or other specialty area.

Develop outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships and fundraising/funding. Oversee strategic financial planning and sustainability for CARS, as needed; monitor performance and ensure appropriate controls.

May co-teach and oversee the administration of courses; create and/or advise in the development of curriculum; and/or advise students, coach and mentor clients and program staff.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Advanced degree and five or more years of relevant experience in area of specialization or combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans. Experience developing program partnerships and funding sources.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.

Advanced oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.

Ability to oversee and direct staff.

Ability to manage budgets and develop financial plans.

Physical Requirements*

Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.

Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.

Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.

Ability to use voice to present information/communicate with others.

On-campus mobility.
