Job Description:
Responsible for setting the overall strategy for the development time of the President/ Provost and ensuring that their time is spent to maximum effectiveness.
Prioritizes alumni/develop activities
Manages University-wide annual calendar planning process and advises on which meetings/events should be accepted
Ensures appropriate pre-event/meeting preparation, including briefings and talking points as needed
Directs internal communication to ensure appropriate staff are informed of planned and completed activity.
Develops strategy and directs execution of special events with the President and Provost
Establishes the agenda for regular meetings between the UDO And the Office of the President and Provost.
Drives all aspects of planning for the President’s trip to the World Economic Forum
Working with the Vice-President, directs programming and engagement strategy for the Campaign Executive Committee.
Develops meeting content aligns with University campaign priorities.
Develops agenda for campaign co-chair conference calls.
Identify opportunities and plan for special engagement with Campaign Executive Committee members
Drives volunteer management program for University campaign volunteers
Identifies volunteer assignments and drives activity through regular communication with prospect managers, ensuring that assignments are discussed with and executed by volunteers.
Oversees volunteer preparation, including briefings, gift opportunities, and follow up as needed
With the Senior Associate Vice President, drives the strategy development around 7-, 8-, and 9-figure gift solicitations across the University.
Serves as primary alumni/development liaison to the President and CEO of the Harvard Management Company.
In coordination with the VP for HPAC, advises on meeting and speaking engagements and ensures that his time is used strategically.
Prepares the President and CEO for all alumni/development events and meetings with briefings and talking points and facilitates follow up as need.
Vets requests for 1:1 meetings and provides background for meetings as requested.
Facilitates School/UDO relations through a variety of activities.
Communicates weekly updates from UDO to school development staff.
Develops schedule and agenda for Council of Fundraising Deans meetings
With the Senior Associate Vice President, drives regular UDO/Schools meetings to discuss fundraising strategy and results.
Work regularly with the School to ensure that their top prospects are getting the needed focus from University senior leadership.
As a member of the UDO Principal Gifts Team ensures that the Team’s activity is integrated into the planning for the President and Provost’s development time.
Serves as liaison to other AA&D groups to insure that UDO has the infrastructure necessary to effectively meet its mission.
Serves as a liaison to Operations to insure that UDO has the proper reports to effectively manage fundraising activity.
Works with the budget staff to develop budget for President and Provost development activity and travel.
With the AOS /CAADS team, co leads University-wide steering committee on online giving and guides improvement in online giving experience.
Manage four+ full-time staff, including training, mentoring, and conducting annual performance reviews.
Occasional development-related travel with the President and other senior administrators which can vary during parts of the year but can be as much as 15-25% of the time.
Additional QualificationsThis person must be able to assimilate quickly into this role with minimal direction. Advanced strategic skills and creative problem solving. Ability to influence and persuade others.
Harvard University experience preferred.
Accomplished presentation skills, oral and written.
Proven personal and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, engage and work with University leaders, faculty and staff; open and receptive to new ideas; personal flexibility and ability to succeed and deal with ambiguity.
Strong operational skills that demonstrate professionalism, organization, strong time management, managing and measuring work, managing work processes.
This position requires good judgment and discretion to represent the Alumni Affairs and Development constituencies in a highly professional manner. Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion. This position requires a sophisticated and comprehensive understanding of fundraising principles and practices, extremely high levels of professionalism, collegiality, self-motivation, organization and familiarity with the goals and objectives of Harvard, and of the Development organization.
Must have excellent writing skills, proven ability to write in another person’s voice;
Must be able to prioritize work and to work independently.
Must be focused and motivated to learn and be flexible to change. Must have excellent client service and interpersonal skills, and must take the initiative to maintain a strong work ethic at all times.
Demonstrated ability to work successfully under pressure, Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team. Must be able to complete assignments independently and with a minimum amount of supervision.
Solid computer skills in a PC environment with the capability to master new software applications and technologies in database management
