Job Description:
As a member of the IT leadership team, the Director of Laboratory Information Systems will have responsibility for the implementation, configuration and maintenance of the company’s suite of laboratory information management systems. The position will work directly with other key stakeholders in the laboratory operations, quality, and R&D functions to ensure systems and processes meet the short term and long term goals of the company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Implements and maintains laboratory information management systems to meet operational requirements
Ensures systems are developed, tested and maintained to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and external regulations, including CLIA, CAP, GxP and HIPAA
Serve as LIMS subject matter expert and high-level point of contact with company management, internal stakeholders and vendors
Engage key stakeholders to identify business needs and formulate solutions that meet business objectives
Lead the process of continuous improvement to design and implement process improvements across laboratory systems
Report to senior management periodically on various system initiatives
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
May perform additional duties as assigned or directed by management from time to time
Desired Skills and Experience
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or life sciences field
7+ years of experience in information technology/information systems field in a biotechnology or related business
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience supervising a group responsible for LIMS in a clinical laboratory setting
Demonstrated understanding of laboratory processes including: sample management, batch management, reagent management, task and instrument scheduling
Experience building high performance teams with a track record of delivering results to specification, on time, and within budget
Demonstrated expertise in design, maintenance and validation of LIMS systems supporting complex molecular diagnostics in a regulated environment (i.e. GxP, CLIA, CAP, HIPAA)
Experience with LabVantage highly desired
