Johnson & Johnson Innovation, JLABS (“JLABS”) is a division of Johnson & Johnson Innovation (“JJI”). JJI JLABS is recruiting a Senior Director, JLABS North America. The goal of Johnson & Johnson Innovation is to advance transformative healthcare solutions that improve the lives of people around the world and, in so doing, to deliver value to Johnson & Johnson (“J&J”). The Senior Director, JLABS North America position provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that JLABS has the proper operational systems, processes, tools and metrics in place to effectively grow the organization. The goal is to ensure the business objectives are met while also ensuring financial strength and operating efficiency throughout its expansion, both physically around the globe and programmatically across sectors. The position accomplishes this through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the goals and objectives of Johnson & Johnson Innovation JLABS.

Responsibilities

The Senior Director, JLABS North America will provide day-to-day leadership and management to JLABS, a solution oriented organization within Johnson & Johnson Innovation that mirrors the mission and core values of the company. Bottom line: Support and direct an engaging and productive organization focused on delivering value to our global community of innovators, patients and consumers, particularly through our global and sector expansion. S/he is responsible for driving JLABS to achieve and surpass business goals and objectives and for the effective direction and measurement of all processes, systems and tools, for both internal and external success. S/he provides timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the company and will spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes. S/he will collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and people designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of our organization. S/he will motivate and lead a high performance management team; attract, recruit and retain required members of the team not currently in place; provide mentoring as a cornerstone to the leadership goals of the organization, reflecting the credo of the company.

The Senior Director, JLABS North America will act as lead "client-care officer" through direct contact with every innovator and partner, foster a success and solution oriented, accountable environment within the company and represent the firm with companies, investors, and business partners. Having demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with previous experience overseeing people, information technology, and legal. S/he must be skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning with excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team. S/he must possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to corporate mission with flexibility and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.

Requirements

A minimum BS/BA degree along with an MBA or advanced degree is required. An MD and/or PhD are preferred. At least 12 years of experience with at least 8 years in senior management is required. At least 8 years of relevant professional experience in the healthcare industry is required. Start-up company experience along with large corporate experience is required. Demonstrated team management is required. Demonstrated adaptability to work across functions and geographic regions is required. Demonstrated experience managing a budget is required.

The successful applicant will have deep experience and understanding of the bio pharma, and/or the medical device and/or the consumer healthcare products industries and have entrepreneurial experience having started and/or run a start-up or a business unit within a larger corporation. S/he must possess excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach a senior-level staff to manage and develop high-performance teams and develop and implement program strategies with deep experience in program budgeting and fiscal management. S/he must be an analytic and decisive decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals with experience as part of negotiation team, with a demonstrated ability to contribute to establishing relationships at a fast pace while developing a collegial, collaborative relationship with a potential partner. S/he must be comfortable working with other team members, including scientific leads, transaction, legal, finance, marketing, and commercial teams to progress and complete partnerships, have a collaborative mindset and be a strong team player. S/he must be a strong communicator to develop and present strategic and scientific rationale to key internal constituencies and be curious to think about, develop and present innovative ways for outreach and interaction with the healthcare ecosystem, and for “out-of-the-box” ideas. S/he must be willing to take on responsibilities for helping to develop and strengthen J&J’s shared culture and possess strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent public speaking skills. S/he must be action-oriented, entrepreneurial, flexible, and innovative approach to operational management with passion, humility, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and be self-directed.

This position is located in South San Francisco, CA, and requires willingness to travel (both domestically & internationally) up to 50% of the time.
