Job Description
The principle purpose of the Director, International Transportation is to move Lowe’s import product from overseas markets into the United States. The Director manages the flow of product into Lowe’s RDC’s, Coastal holding facilities and through the 3rd party transload providers. The Director manages the processing of import product by selecting third party providers who operate the coastal holding or import warehouses and cross dock transload facilities on behalf of Lowe’s.
This leader also is responsible for the ancillary services that go along with importing Lowe’s product and for the management and operation of three separate transload operations in New Jersey, Savannah Ga. and Wilmington California and two Coastal holding facilities in New Jersey and Ontario California.
Additionally, the Director, International Transportation oversees the supply chain security for all of Lowe’s imported product and retaining Lowe’ Customs Trade Partnership against Terrorism (CTPAT) Tier 3 status with US Customs and border protection. The Director is responsible for the overall management, direction, strategy and operations of the carrier/provider management, overseas operations management, U.S. Import Operations management, and global trade and security
To accomplish this, the Director, International Transportation must have knowledge of the Ocean carrier business, Overseas operational experience in foreign markets, port and terminal operations, U.S. Customs security requirements and trucking drayage operations.
The Director, International Transportation works closely with Network flow, inventory managem Global Trade, Lowe’s global sourcing, merchandising, legal, Domestic Transportation, Transportation planning, U.S. Customs, Port Authorities, third party trucking companies, and Carrier executives to ensure timely delivery of Lowe’s import products to our facilities.
The Director, International Transportation is responsible for managing and providing direction to a moderate sized team. This team is responsible for the movement of product from overseas factories to foreign ports and onto the vessels for movement into the commerce of the United States into the RDC’s, Coastal Holding and transload facilities. As such this leader is responsible for recruiting, training, developing, disciplining, evaluating, and maintaining strong bench strength.
Required Minimum Qualifications
·Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation, Logistics or related field plus 10 years of experience in international logistics or 15 years of experience in international logistics with experience in all disciplines of international freight movement
·5 years of experience with in a retail industry that imports.
·5 years of leadership experience with direct report responsibility
·2 years of experience working closely with senior leadership (VP and above)
·5 years of experience working with carriers and ancillary service providers
·2 years experience working relationship with US Customs
Preferred Qualifications
·Master’s Degree in International Logistics
·20 years experience in the field of international logistics
·5 years expatriate experience with Retailer or service provider in the field of international logistics.
·Experience with global trade lanes not geographically limited
·Experience with ocean, air, customs brokerage, consolidation and trucking operations both domestically and abroad
·CTPAT certification experience and good working relationship with Customs / CBP in Washington, DC and field offices
·3 years experience in supply chain security
·Contacts with customs and Border Patrol CBP in Washington, DC.
