Director - Engineering, Cheese Processing - Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. - Kansas City


Job description
To facilitate, through new site construction, expansion, facility design or renovation, equipment and processes, the short and long term goals and objectives for the Global Dairy Products (GDPG) group for cheese processing. Also support the various manufacturing plants efforts of continuous improvement.


Key Duties and Responsibilities
Works closely in concert with each Director of Operations in support of their respective plants success
Provides GDPG management with information/guidance on all aspects of cheese processing and related matters. Investigate and report on problems and recommend solutions.
Develops and establishes cheese processing standards for equipment including operational parameters such as to ensure process stability while maximizing manufacturing process efficiencies.
Develops and manages the implementation of continuous improvement ideas, concepts and projects that support operational excellence throughout our cheese processing facilities, from receiving through packaging. Manages multiple projects, vendors and contractors as related to the implementation of these plans.
Be the go to technical authority as it relates to cheese manufacturing processes. Drives technical solutions and provides leadership for execution to attain desired results.
Design, identify and/or investigate new technologies that will result in process improvements leading DFA to best in class manufacturing.
Analyze existing production methods and recommend modifications necessary to improve and streamline the manufacturing process, particularly in light of a planned new plant construction and/or expansion.
Communicates with DFA personnel on projects, priorities, timetables and budgets as required.
Continually strive to reduce facility and manufacturing operating costs by providing best option technical solutions and/or utilizing best method analyses towards improving internal systems.
Performs specific duties as assigned by the Sr. Director, Engineering; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the organization and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.

Desired Skills and Experience


Education and Experience

Minimum of BS degree in engineering with multi-discipline experience.
Minimum of 10 years technical experience in the food industry including plant construction and/or expansion.
Minimum of 5 years cheese manufacturing experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and process engineering with a strong emphasis on cheese processing.
Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, leadership and oral/written communciation skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, maturity and good judgment and be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals.
Strong project management skills including ability to manage multi-plant projects simultaneously.
Creative thinker with the ability to drive innovation close in and further out.
Strong vendor/contractor management skills with demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
Ability to think ahead and plan over a 1-3 year timeframe.
Effective problem analysis and problem resolution at both the strategic and functional levels.
Working knowledge of regulatory codes, blue print reading and use of Microsoft Project.
Working knowledge of GMPs, FDA, USDA and OSHA regulations
