Job Description
Responsibilities
· Scan the retail and macro consumer landscape to identify compelling new business development opportunities
o New categories of merchandise
o New customer experiences and services
o Emerging channels
· Prioritize new growth initiatives based on strategic fit, financial potential and fit with JCPenney’s capabilities (e.g., target customer, brands)
· Build business cases for top focus areas
o Industry market sizing
o Competitive benchmarking
o Customer research
o Definition of winning value proposition
o Financial projections
o Development of testing and full rollout plans
o Leading cross-functional teams
· Gain cross-functional alignment within the organization, including Merchandising, Marketing, Private Brands, Omni-channel, Planning & Allocation, Finance, Property Development and Legal teams
· Build new business development capabilities
o Manage inbound requests
o Create business development funnel
o Train other departments on go-to-market planning for new concepts
· Attend retail and consumer products trade shows and events to track emerging trends and opportunities
Prior Experience
· Ideal candidate has a blend of Corporate Strategy / Business Development experience (5+ years) with Management consulting (3+ years)
· Retail and/or consumer products industry experience
· Bachelor’s degree required and MBA preferred
· Past history of motivating, socializing, and mobilizing associates to participate and engage in corporate programs
· Solid experience meeting and presenting to executive leadership
· Experience working cross functionally within and organization (up, down and laterally)
