Director - Publishing Operations - Amazon - Seattle


Job Description
Amazon Publishing is the full-service publishing arm of Amazon. Our mission is to invent new models to connect authors and readers. We are searching for a dynamic leader to drive the strategy and roadmap for the Amazon Publishing Operations team. As the Director of Operations you will be responsible for reimagining how we create books and leading the team in designing and implementing tools and processes to delight authors and readers worldwide with the books we create.
The ideal candidate has a track record for creativity and innovation, process improvement, building and developing high-performing teams and delivering results.

This role requires customer obsession, experience thinking big while creating scalable and efficient processes and strong data/analytical skills. You will collaborate with your counterparts in Amazon's Kindle Content organization to execute on shared quality and innovation goals. Reporting to the General Manager of Amazon Publishing International, the role is based in Seattle and requires travel to domestic and international offices.

Core Job Responsibilities

· Lead the team in reimagining and reinventing book production - scale operating capacity through innovation; develop templates that can be used world-wide
· Partner with teams across the Kindle Content organization to innovate in book production, delivering cost and quality improvements
· Guide the creation of templates and standardization that improve the team’s ability to make fast and impactful decisions
· Mentor and grow the next level of management talent in the organization

Basic Qualifications

· BA/BS required
· 15 + years of relevant work experience
· Strong systems thinker; track record of dealing with ambiguity and delivering the right results in a matrixed organization
· Strong analytical skills with excellent problem solving abilities; uses objective data to make compelling decisions
· Ability to outline a vision and lead a team in fast innovation and implementation
· Superior verbal and written communications skills.
· Demonstrated ability to understand and apply technical concepts and communicate with technical teams
· Track record of developing high-performing organizations

Preferred Qualifications

· MBA preferred
· Experience with continuous innovation/process improvement methodologies (such as Kaizen, Lean, Six Sigma, Operational Excellence, etc.)
