Director - Engineering, Social Platform - Centro - San Francisco


Job description
We are looking for a senior software engineering leader to help establish and lead our social platform development effort in San Francisco. Will be responsible for growing a team of engineers that will help scale out Centro’s Social Platform and related ad-tech products. This is a senior leadership role focused on building a team of seasoned software professionals that can deliver world-class software. This role is responsible for guiding architecture and driving to high availability across all services.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Timely delivery of best-in-class product.
Coach and unblock your teams on a daily basis.
Guide teams to make sound architectural choices.
Partner with Product Management and senior executives to drive the strategy for Centro’s Social Platform.
Play an active role in defining the strategic direction of R&D as a whole.
Anticipate technology issues, changing product priorities, and complex team dynamics.
Wear different hats: from process coach to delivery manager.
Hire world-class engineers and inspire them to join the Centro team.
Serve as a role model for Centro values and work practices and actively mentor managers/future leaders.
Champion creativity, reasoned risk-taking actions, and entrepreneurial thinking in others.
Create a culture of high performance, where coaching and feedback about performance standards are the norm.
Be comfortable with and anticipate change.

QUALIFICATIONS
You have 10+ years of experience developing software products, ideally with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering. Master’s or PhD a plus.
You have 5+ years in leadership roles including development, quality assurance, build and release management.
You have built, shipped and supported commercial B2B SaaS products with paying customers.
You appreciate the unique challenges of managing software development processes and people.
You have a track record of building credibility and trust with talented software engineers, peers, and cross-functional teams based on competence, not title or authority.
You are pro-active, hands-on, passionate, persistent, and creative.
You value diversity and seek out the A+ players who complement the range of experience and perspective already on your teams.
You have experience with development methodologies such as Agile, Scrum and Waterfall and Lean practices and know how to scale them.
You have experience with project management software, (eg: Atlassian tools such as JIRA and Confluence, Pivotal Tracker, Version One, Rally, etc.)
You have built service oriented web services using tech stacks including relational and non-relational databases, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, RESTful interfaces, Java, Spring, Hibernate, Ruby, Rails, and open source technologies.
You value accountability, transparency, and consistency.
You have a strong project-driven mentality and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
You have excellent communications skills and can speak directly to executives and customers, and write critical customer communications.
You have a knack for collaborating with opinionated peers who are passionate about building the best platform for digital media on the planet, and designing an organization to do it.
