Director - Infrastructure, Sustainability and Renewal - Harvard University - Cambridge


Job description
Duties & ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the overall mechanical and structural maintenance and renewal programs for over 250 buildings within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) including but not limited to building envelopes, HVAC systems and infrastructure, elevators and MEP systems and all life safety related systems.

Responsible for overseeing FAS-wide strategic planning, design, modernization, installation, operation, and maintenance programs for building systems, including environmental, mechanical, emergency, and access control.

Responsible for the continued development and management of FAS-wide maintenance programs such as Roof and Envelope Maintenance, Elevator Maintenance, Fire Systems Maintenance, Emergency Generator Maintenance and HVAC and MEP Preventive Maintenance.
Lead the FAS Energy and Sustainability Program working toward President’s commitment of a 30% reduction in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions by 2016.
May manage multiple renewal projects simultaneously. Develop design standards and conduct design review as necessary.
Facilitates and manages associated facilities condition assessments and data using VFA web-based renewal database or other similar tools.
Responsible for the management of the FAS Environmental Compliance Reporting – SPCC; Emissions; Ground Water Injection; MWRA and DEP in conjunction with University departments such as Environmental Health & Safety.
Directs Physical Resources involvement in integrating new building control system technology with building operations and construction. Plans, develops and coordinates relevant networks.
Works with departments across the University (e.g. Engineering and Utilities, Police, Operations Center) to insure proper configuration and management of FAS facilities systems.
This position serves on, and may chair, several University-wide committees and represents the FAS as a committee member on other committees. Key member the FAS Local Emergency Management Team (LEMT).

Additional QualificationsExcellent decision making and organizational skills. Must be highly skilled in written and verbal communications and the ability to work well with clients at all levels. Strong working knowledge of relevant computer tools including MS Office, scheduling, work order systems, build automation systems and security access control. Solid knowledge of local, state and federal regulations for operating in an urban area setting within an educational, research oriented environment.

Additional - CFM certificate, BA/BS, PE license preferred.
Experience in an academic setting preferred.
