Director - Services Marketing - Ciena - San Jose


Job description
Overall marketing responsibility for Ciena’s professional and product- attached services. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge, experience and specialization of services/solutions marketing within the telecom industry, along with financial business acumen and have experience with services industry and research organizations. He/she will provide a forward thinking perspective to articulate how our services and solutions will meet current and future market/customer needs. At the same time, this individual must be able to execute and deliver on collateral content and marketing programs to support the strategic vision.



This individual is responsible for building internal and external awareness of and preference our core professional services and solutions. S/he is responsible for developing and promoting our services-related sales enablement materials. The marketing professional must be capable of successfully identifying and converting complex value propositions to create competitive approaches to the market place, as well as being able to deliver content and executing on marketing programs objectives and metrics. He/She will need to employ a collaborative approach in working across the integrated marketing functions to move content and messaging into global and regional marketing demand generation and awareness campaigns.

This professional should be well versed in industry trends in consulting and professional services marketing; evolving customer needs; and well-practiced in how to tailor marketing messaging to maximum relevance for a given audience. In addition, the person will collaborate with PLM and services PLM to identify and provide advice on new services opportunities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Owns responsibility for internal and external marketing activities of existing and new growth initiatives coming from Ciena’s services and solutions portfolio.
Develops thought leadership opportunities throughout the company and industry for Ciena to be seen as a valuable and trusted services partner.
Content creation – Develops sales assets (web content, datasheets, case studies, white papers, videos, blogs, etc.) that effectively differentiate Ciena’s offerings in the marketplace.
Serves as a services champion for internal and external constituents in representing key positioning and value propositions, including industry forums, customer and channel partner interactions, press, media and analyst relations.
Become the “go to person” for internal Ciena to call for partnering with others in driving customer value proposition, services sales strategy and competitive positioning
Demonstrated leadership working in complex and dynamic matrix structures

Required Skills
The ideal candidate is a combination of thought leader and strategic marketer with proven professional services marketing experience that can also execute on a wide range of tasks and deliverables for clients throughout Ciena.
Change management driver – someone willing to work towards changing product-only focused mindsets and practices towards those that include services, solutions, and sometimes a new way of doing business. Comfortable in designing and implementing world-class processes and practices, rather than simply overseeing established procedures.
Collaborative, team-orientation; more focused on team success than individual accomplishment.
Trusted advisor for the business and a driver for change to support strategic business initiatives. A driver to change the way of thinking and selling Ciena services. Demonstrable success in developing messaging related to services and solutions. Proven financial acumen along with professional services value-based propositions.
Required Experience
10 years of professional or consulting services marketing experience preferably with technology and telecom communications industries. Previous direct reporting into executive level positions desirable.
Solid understanding and experience with carrier, enterprise, and wireless customers and markets. Experience with international/global markets.
Strong and effective communicator – with a superior ability to cater the information according to the target audience.
Seasoned interpersonal skills with proven ability to partner with multiple cross-functional teams (sales, service product management, etc.) to drive business success in a highly collaborative, team-oriented, and fast-paced environment.
Excellent communications, writing and presentation skills (customers, analysts, press, and internal constituents).
Ability to influence those outside of the scope of position power. Candidate should be able to influence diverse groups of people and create a sense of ownership and urgency toward growing Ciena’s services and solutions business.
