Director - Materials - PSG - Dover - Grand Rapids


Job description
Position Summary: Responsibility to provide results driven leadership to the purchasing and inventory departments. Key areas of accountability include hands-on participation in department activities, planning, budgeting, purchasing, inventory control, resource management, scheduling, training, supplier network, best practices, quality, and continued improvement of responsible areas. Control and regulate the flow of inventory, responsible for monitoring, managing and analyzing both inventory and incoming inventory to ensure the desired metric of Working Capital is being achieved assuring GAAP is being practiced regarding purchasing to assure compliance with internal and third party auditors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Identify and develop strategic suppliers / partnerships to support PSG / Grand Rapids business goals.

Establish departmental goals and objectives that provide world-class materials performance to the organization

Manage the delivery of parts with suppliers when the company inventory is accurate with traceability.

Establish and track meaningful departmental reports / measurements identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Communicate with the Accounting Department and the outside auditors in the planning, organization, and evaluation of the Company’s physical inventory.

Manage the coordination of parts deliveries and movement of parts from receiving and inspection processes to timely kitting of parts for RS and manufacturing processes.

Manage the coordination of master planning/scheduling activities internally and externally to the department for end item customer requirements.

Manage the evaluation, and initiate action to maintain planned levels of production and finished levels of inventory.

Analyze material requisites and plant capacities to provide planned activities for level loaded manufacturing/production.

Educate, coordinate, and perform essential activities related to the setting of parameters, maintenance of required fields, and the running of the Material Requirements Planning module within the computer system, including the future ERP systems, i.e., Oracle

Conducts performance evaluations for direct-report personnel, performs candidate selection, training, and dealing with employee related issues on a timely basis.

Manage forecasting demand and flow system, new product flow through plant, product synchronization, high vs low volume products, kanban demand pull, single vs dual card Kanban, non-replenishable Kanbans, backflush vs inventory relief, raw and in-process work in process inventory, calculating in process Kanbans.

Manage the set up reduction focus points, targeting capacity, process capabilities, monitor the variance in demand flow as it relates to inventory and PFEP / MRP

Performs all other duties assigned by the Materials Manager.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Minimum of a BA, preferably an MBA.
5-10 years experience in the following fields, inventory, purchasing, and import understanding.
Standard computer skills and proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook and Access.
Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness, implementing best practices, ERP’s: LX and Oracle.
Desired Skills and Experience
Desired Characteristics:

MBA.
Demonstrated experience in financial planning, with 10 years experience in the following fields, inventory, production planning, purchasing, shipping, logistics, export/import experience.
Work experience in LEAN, excellent computer skills and proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook and Access, knowledge in implementing best, ERP’s: BPICs and Oracle.
