Director, School & Department Funds

Position Overview:

The Director is responsible for the investment due diligence and monitoring, portfolio strategy,

relationship management, and middle and back office support of the separately

invested School and Department Funds, as well as affiliated Stanford entities.

This position reports to the Managing Director of Partner Relations and

Programs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee all investments in the School and

Department Funds and affiliated Stanford entities.

• Lead and develop a team of investment

professionals in carrying out department objectives.

• Deepen and strengthen relationships with SDF

stakeholders, including Deans, Stanford University's alumni volunteer

investment committees responsible for separately invested school and

department funds, and University staff.

• Regularly present portfolio and investment

updates to investment committees.

• Conduct quantitative and qualitative due

diligence for new investments, including reference checks and

peer/benchmark alpha. Monitor existing

portfolio investments. Oversight and review of legal agreements and fees.

• Oversight of portfolio strategy including

asset allocation, cash flow, and portfolio modeling.

• Provide middle and back office support for the

School and Department Funds and affiliated Stanford entities including

custody management, cash and transaction management, liquidation of

securities, reconciliation, and performance and valuation reporting.

Supervisory

Responsibilities:

Direct reports include

Manager, Senior Associate, and Analyst.



Qualifications:

To perform this

Education and/or Experience:

• Advanced degree preferred. Seven to ten years of experience in

investment management with broad asset class experience preferred.

• Strong leadership skills and compatibility

with a team-oriented environment.

Experience managing high-level investment professionals.

• Experienced investor with knowledge of

alternative investments and portfolio management. Knowledge of the traditional

institutional, foundation, endowment, plan sponsor, or private wealth

world.

• Proactively seek opportunities to strengthen

SDF relationships and platform.

• Strong communication skills.

• Demonstrated ability to plan, initiate and

execute complex financial and analytical studies. This includes knowledge of financial

investment markets, performing due diligence, and advocating approval

based on thorough analysis.

• The ability to understand the academic

environment and collaborate effectively with senior officers of the

University.

• Excellent judgment, high integrity and

personal values consistent with values articulated by Stanford Management

Company and Stanford University.

• Knowledge of and sensitivity to risk

management issues.

Physical Requirements:

• Constantly sitting.

• Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks,

use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.

• Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry objects

weighing 11-20 pounds.

• Rarely reach/work above shoulder.
