Director - IAM Engineering - Harvard University - Cambridge


Job description
Duties & ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Managing Director, Architecture and Engineering at Harvard University IT, the Director, Identity and Access Management (IAM) Engineering provides strategic leadership to design and implement systems for Identity and Access Management for the University community. Works with the Managing Director, Architecture and Engineering to develop, refine, and implement the overall strategy for Identity and Access Management for Harvard. Oversees the planning, management and operation of the group charged with developing, supporting, and ensuring the reliability, stability and integrity of Identity and Access Management systems, as well as successful execution of the Harvard IAM Program. Works as a member of the management team for the Architecture and Engineering organization.

Provides leadership in implementing industry best practices for Identity and Access Management, software development, project execution and service management. The Director is responsible for the successful operation and uptime of the IAM services, and providing leadership in DevOps and operational practices for running the service.

Manages a team of 21 developers, DevOps engineers and architects, and is responsible for fostering a culture that promotes collaboration, innovation and excellence in execution. Works with business contacts and IT stakeholders across the University to ensure that customer needs are continuously met in the Identity and Access Management space. Manages a cross-department Technical Oversight team to review technical approach for IAM. Collaborates with HUIT Infrastructure team to engineer technical solutions using industry best practices. Works with the HUIT Security team to build secure and security standards-compliant solutions. Manages the cloud migration of IAM applications. Works with the Chief Technology Officer to establish University standards for Identity and Access Management.

This position has a strong internal candidate. Additional Qualifications• Experience with Identity and Access Management concepts, standards and tools andAgile develop methodology

• Proven experience implementing enterprise solutions
• Comprehensive knowledge of software development lifecycle methodologies, and led teams that delivered projects through the complete software development lifecycle
• Excellent communication skills and technical writing ability
• Ability to synthesize business issues into technical solutions
• Public speaking and presentation skills required, including to senior management. Communicates effectively with technical staff and non-technical staff.
• Comprehensive knowledge of identity and access management concepts and standards
• Experience designing systems for high availability, security, manageability, and reliability
• Strong aptitude and desire to learn new technologies and tools
• Experience managing vendors and contracts
Experience with an IAM products such as CAS, SailPoint IIQ, AD, LDAP, etc.
• Previous experience with Java/EE, including web services and XML. Relevant technologies include Linux, Tomcat, WebLogic, Spring, Hibernate, Maven, Bootstrap, etc.
• Experience with at least one of the major RDBMS systems, preferably Oracle
• Experience with authentication federation standards like SAML and Shibboleth
• Knowledge of networking in a complex environment and related security challenges
• Knowledge of data exchange and feeds in an enterprise environment and ETL tools like Informatica
• Experience working in a higher education environment
• Strong UML, design patterns, and object-oriented design skills
