Director - Market Research - BlackRock - New York


Job description
We are seeking a consulting professional to join the BlackRock Global Client Insights team. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join an evolving team that plays a significant role in the business strategy of the leading asset manager and an organization that values high quality and high impact customer insights.

You will focus on influencing the continued growth of BlackRock’s North American businesses by partnering with senior marketers and other key stakeholders to synthesize and activate customer insights. Your success will be measured by the impact on revenue through:
Building relationships and influencing the recommendation of key stakeholders across our US Businesses such as Marketing Leads, Channel Strategists and Sales Managers.
Championing findings and holding managers accountable for agreed upon actions from the research.
Finding the relationship or meaning with diverse sets of data that promises significant business impact.


Primary Responsibilities:
Partner with senior marketing leads to champion client insights – Build consultative relationships with and act as primary point of contact for senior marketers. This includes aligning on key business priorities, getting buy-in on research programs and findings and becoming a trusted advisor in their decision-making.
Act as a catalyst for customer-centricity in the organization — push beyond observed behavior to understand the underlying attitudes and beliefs of the customer. Facilitate creation and sharing of insights by others outside the Global Client Insights team.
Build and champion insights roadmap – audit existing knowledge (primary and secondary sources), identify knowledge gaps and create proactive annual research plans to advance business understanding of key customers, businesses and competitors.
Create and maintain multisource synthesis documents – synthesize existing knowledge from primary and secondary research and develop expertise in new sources to create a knowledge foundation for integration into marketing work.
Identify and disseminate knowledge for timely decision making – facilitate insight generation by Research Experts in the team and ensure implementation of those insights by marketing and product teams.
Lead key findings socialization efforts — influence the organization by ensuring wide knowledge dissemination and by taking an activist role to champion insights throughout campaign, project and product development cycles. Customize the communications of the research findings to have the broadest impact on the business.
Assume leadership and management responsibilities in Client Insights team – manage small team of research experts, partner with other North American and European Research Directors to leverage and learn from global efforts, and support the Head of Global Insights.

Desired Skills and Experience
10+ years of consulting or marketing research experience, financial products or services related experience is a plus.
At least 10-15+ years of overall professional experience with at least some of this experience beyond market research; ideally including either execution and/or strategy responsibilities in marketing, product, sales or corporate strategy.
Demonstrated ability in forming trusted advisor relationships with internal partners or external clients.
A proven track record of triangulating disparate data and turning them into business recommendations and actions.
Team player with experience interacting with different functional areas and personality styles.
People management experience.
BA/BS in statistics, economics, or market research preferred; MBA or Masters degree a plus
