Amazon.com is looking for a dynamic, entrepreneurial and technical leader to join the Transaction Risk Management Services (TRMS) organization. TRMS’s mission is to make Amazon the safest and most trusted place to transact online globally. As the Director of Risk Platform Learning Services, you will be at the forefront of this mission. You will be responsible for building multiple program teams to define and deliver end-to-end machine learning model development and deployment environments for Petabyte size, mission-critical decision-making applications. Types of programs in this space are: (i) building a real-time data analytics platform from the ground-up, (ii) expanding our continuous learning program to all risk functions, (iii) machine learning model building and execution services, (iv) risk evaluation rule management. This is a hands-on technical leadership role that requires technical chops and ability to roll up their sleeves and provide technical leadership in major projects in addition to managing a development org. This is a new and exciting technical leadership role that requires exceptional customer focus, the ability to think big, the ability to hire and develop leaders, and strong analytical skills.

We are looking for an individual with strong technical, innovation and software development skills that is self-driven and can balance creativity and drive for results with customer focus, teamwork and the ability to quickly understand and pick up new technologies, machine learning models & applications. The successful candidate is one who thrives on understanding the complexity of our software systems, and especially brings a nuanced understanding of different aspects of risk management functions -- fraud detection, identity theft prevention and counterfeit prevention.

In this role, you will need to dig deep into details as well as have the ability to set and execute on the big picture vision. You are the key link across Machine Learning Scientists / Analytics, Engineering, Operations groups as well as other Big Data / Analytics platform services group across Amazon. You will need to be able to influence senior executives, technical leaders, and managers to take action. You need to be able to plan and coordinate complex discussions between our team, our dependencies, and our clients. Your strong management skills will be utilized to help deliver critical projects that meet various business and inter-org requirements. Our world-class software engineers are just getting started -- and as a leader, you pave the way for innovation, you should be able to get deep into the technical details, are proactive in removing roadblocks and can handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate is an experienced software development leader who understands and sets a high bar for all parts of the software development and deployment lifecycle, including design, development, documentation, testing and operations. You must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, be self-driven and deliver high quality results in a fast paced environment. You need to really enjoy working with their customers and peers, and help plan and deliver results that matter for the business.
Demonstrated experience in leading multiple simultaneous product development efforts.
The ability to achieve results in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment is critical.
This leader must be technically credible to lead a team of world-class software engineers and development managers and be able to make the right design decisions and technology choices.
He or she must be able to balance technical leadership with good business judgment.
Delivering the right product with a scalable engineering design under tight timelines is an essential skill.
Mentor and grow the next level of engineering management talent.
A BS or MS degree in Computer Science is required with 15-20 years of experience managing enterprise/mission critical software engineering teams.
