VP - Engineering - ShapeUp - Providence
Job description
The VP of Engineering is an integral piece of the leadership team and will report to the CTO. You should have exceptional management skills, and be obsessed with leveraging processes/tools. You will be responsible for managing the entire development team and ensure the engineers deliver the product without compromise. Your impact will directly affect the product, marketing, operations, and financial outcomes of our social wellness solutions.

Responsibilities:
Lead the day-to-day activities of the software development organization.
Guide technical, architectural, and organizational decisions, making sure we build scalable, efficient, and maintainable software.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, Quality Assurance, Project Management, and Operations Teams.
Create/evolve efficient processes, scalable tools, and resource allocation methodology to achieve a high level of productivity.
Provide analysis oversight during initial design and problem solving of programming assignments.
Ensure development standards and architectural requirements are met with every code release.
Demonstrate technical acumen to lead by example, assist the team in accomplishing all tasks, and demonstrate ownership and accountability for the entire engineering team.
Stay ahead of new technologies and how they will enable the business to more forward. Drive engineering team to do the same.
Hire and successfully onboard new team memebrs. Ensure that the resources are in place and balanced to hit aggressive timelines and stringent quality standards.

Desired Skills and Experience
10+ years of engineering experience with 5+ years as a Director or VP.
Should be fluent in both Agile/SCRUM and Waterfall based software development.
Deep knowledge of PHP, MySQL and LAMP environments.
Deep knowledge of various engineering styles and techniques such as XP, paired programming, UP, and Lean.
Experience with scaling teams, technology, and processes, both in large-scale and startup environments.
Proven track record of defining, developing and implementing effective technology development plans.
Proven track record of allocating resources and working towards budgets and timelines.
The ability to solve complex problems from both a product development and strategic standpoint. This includes efficient issue identification, fact development, and the creation of concrete solution plans.
A strong leader and great communicator, with a welcoming and supportive personality.
Strong ability to mentor, coach and teach.
Results focused, and driven to get quality product “out the door”.
The energy and motivation to drive to results in a challenging, fast paced environment.
Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related area.
