Senior Director - User Experience - Silicon Valley Bank - San Francisco


Job description
We are looking for a talented senior creative resource to tackle all UI and Design related activities here at Silicon Valley Bank (SVB). This person will be responsible for defining our UX vision, design strategy, and processes. You will build and oversee the teams responsible for UX design, UI design, and user research. You should be excited about user centered, lean design, and desire to be embedded in the product discovery process, not just the design process. The Director of UX Design will work closely with the product team to brainstorm new product concepts, wire-frame new features and be the gatekeeper for all UX activity across the organization. This person will manage the visual design process and serve as a general resource for all things design and experience-related.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Serve as the primary client advocate during the product development process. Consolidate input from multiple stakeholders including clients, product management, client-facing colleagues, executive management, marketing, and software engineering.
• Define and continuously refine the UX strategy and vision for SVB’s product suite and digital experience.
• Develop a deep understanding of our clients, including life-stage, segment and role, and their expectations of SVB and our digital channels.

• Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor top UX/UI designers and user researchers and leverage 3rd party resources as needed.
• Produce interactive models and prototypes of new product concepts.
• Deliver all UI wire-frames necessary to communicate the user-interaction model.
• Produce graphic assets for the development team.
• Help drive the user-testing efforts.
• Produce and maintain SVB’s style guide.
• Support the product management team’s efforts by quickly prototyping product concepts.
• Work as an embedded group within Product & Engineering to explore new product ideas, refine existing products, and drive innovation through design.
• Help the organization transform from a waterfall product development process to an agile methodology.
• Implement lean UX processes to ensure rapid design iteration.
• Be an expert on our customers and what makes them successful.

Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelors Degree

• 5+ years in a digital creative leadership position.
• 10+ years in the interactive application design space with proven success in providing leadership in methodology and deliverables for user-centered design processes.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully manage several large projects and several teams simultaneously.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver products with elegant interaction and visual design.
• Expert understanding of user-centered design principles.
• Experience designing cutting-edge and user-focused client digital experiences that can be rendered on myriad devices.
• Background in fintech digital products – both commercial and consumer.
• Strong business acumen.
• Experience with rapid prototyping tools and diagraming software.
• Experience working in an Agile environment .
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
• Highly motivated and a passionate people leader.
• Expert with design software such as Photoshop and Illustrator as well as modern software development processes and concepts as they relate to user experience.
• Experience designing user-testing sessions.
• Graphic design background and great typography skills a plus.
• Not afraid of taking risks and putting forth unproven or potentially disruptive ideas.
