Executive Creative Director - Gorilla - Chicago
Job description
Gorilla is seeking an Executive Creative Director to lead our design group across all of our offices worldwide. The winning candidate will be responsible for setting the direction of the design discipline at Gorilla and will report directly to the COO. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years experience in an agency environment with several of those years focused in leadership. Winning candidates must possess a body of work that spans fashion-oriented or image-conscious consumer facing brands to complex B2B initiatives.
Responsibilities
Oversee a team composed of UI designers, Interaction Designers and Content Strategists located in both Chicago and New York.
Act as an executive escalation point for client engagements both in the business development process and throughout the project life cycle.
Act as the creative leadership role in the business development process and drive the sales team in the pursuit of new clients.
Work with Gorilla’s Technical Architects, Project Managers, and marketing specialists to strategize winning site design solutions based on real-world needs.
Assist in the estimation process for larger, complex projects.
Provide oversight to ensure projects are completed on-schedule and on-budget
Participate in team lead sessions as they relate to improving Gorilla’s process and company culture.
Drive the direction of the design methodology at Gorilla while understanding the opportunities and challenges that Gorilla will face in the foreseeable future.
Own the team P & L for the fiscal year and participate in developing the annual business plan for Gorilla.
Along with our design leads, conduct annual performance reviews for the team.
Assist in the recruiting process for the design team which includes interviewing and hiring plans.
Work with our resource manager on design team project assignments.
Set career paths and growth plans for the team.
Desired Skills and Experience
Requirements
Mastery of directing people to a successful outcome
Solid background in designing for Web with an emphasis on B2B and B2C E-commerce and image conscious brands and corporations.
An extensive body of work and ability to explain your rationale behind the proposed solutions.
A strong comfort level driving a business unit with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.
Strong project and people management skills. Must be able to function as an individual contributor when needed.
Firm grasp on the demands of designing for web based technology. All candidates must understand the limitations of the medium.
A keen interest in emerging technologies and how they might impact future design decisions and strategic directions.
An appreciation for good design in almost any context, not just the web.
An understanding of the methodologies and processes inherent to a Human/User-Centered design practice as well as experience with agile process and methodologies.
Back of the hand knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and standard business applications such as MS Office Suite, PowerPoint, etc.
Willingness to travel occasionally (10-15%) for on-site client visits and business development.
