DC Entertainment (DCE) is home to the iconic brands of DC Comics (Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, The Flash and more), Vertigo (Sandman, Fables) and MAD. DCE drives the strategic integration of these brands throughout Warner Bros. Entertainment divisions, creating content and experiences with DC stories and characters across film, television, consumer products, home entertainment, interactive entertainment and more.


DCE is also the largest English language comic publisher in the world, with its publishing business generating thousands of comic books, graphic novels and magazines each year.

DC Entertainment (DCE) seeks a Director, Sales Planning for the Sales & Business Development department. The Director, Sales Planning oversees the unit forecasting, planning and reporting for all physical and digital publishing initiatives and products. He/she will work closely with field sales, Publishing (Content Strategy), Business Planning & Finance, Marketing and other departments to communicate demand so that appropriate quantities are incorporated into DCE financial and production plans. This role will also work to create proper formatting, windowing and pricing strategies to maximize both long-term and short-term sales performance. This position tracks and manages the levels of on hand inventory and recommends strategies to maintain acceptable levels. Additionally, this position will oversee the activities of the Manager, Sales Planning who will be responsible for the aggregation and communication of all sales estimates for physical & digital publishing and DC Collectibles. This position will also supervise the creation of sales post mortems, market share reports, top selling products and other data as needed to track the performance and effectiveness of DC products in the marketplace.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide by issue unit estimates for Publishing slate, including:
o Periodicals, collected editions.
o Print & digital.
o Frontlist & backlist.
• Forecasts to support:
o DCE financial budgets and monthly rolling forecasts.
o New strategic initiatives.
o New formats.
o New channels.
o Project greenlights.
• Sales Reporting:
o Develop and maintain database to capture and report unit sales data.
o Provide scheduled and ad hoc unit sales reporting across all formats and channels.
• Print Program: Backlist Inventory Management/Warehouse:
o Manages and runs weekly inventory meeting.
o Reviews weekly selection of titles for reprint decision.
o Analyzes costs for reprinting backlist items; recommends cover price changes when necessary.
o Reviews weekly print run information on first-run titles.
o Recommends taking books out of print.
o Manages destruction of obsolete inventory.
o Maintains and communicates publishing standard established by management, ensuring that all publishing projects conform.
o Working with Content Strategy, communicates windowing and format approvals for new projects, providing management with rough project profit/loss breakdowns to determine financial viability, as required.
o Supervises timely issuing of all sales planning and production schedules.
o Continues to develop advanced sales planning data base system.
o Monitors and evaluates manufacturing and warehouse operations as they relate to order fulfillment.
o Monitors operations and implement new systems as needed to maintain efficiency standards.
o Supervises the timely distribution of all sales planning and production schedules.

Desired Skills and Experience
• BA in Business, Operations, or equivalent work experience is required.
• Six Sigma certification preferred.
• MBA preferred.
• 8 years operations and physical publishing experience
• 4 years experience with digital publishing
• 3 years experience managing people.
• Knowledge of newsstand periodical sales from a publisher or distributor POV a plus.
• Knowledge of newsstand, book chains or comic shops (direct) distribution channels required.
• Effective and proven presentation skills (written and verball) required.
• Strong proficiency in MS Word and Excel required.
• Knowledge of DC Comics and MAD Magazine is a plus.
• Ability to work with confidential material required.
• Must be detail oriented, have good follow-through skills, and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Must have the ability to meet deadlines and schedules.
• Must have the ability to deal with a wide range of suppliers and customers.
• Ability to perform modeling and to create profit/loss analysis tools strongly preferred.
• Must have the ability to supervise others.
• Some travel required.
• Must possess a strong passion for the characters and stories of DC Comics.
• Must have the ability to deal with myriad personality types and profiles.
