Director - Media Strategy - The OutCast Agency - San Francisco


Job description
The Director of Media Strategy is a key contributor to the success of the agency’s overall media strategy efforts. They work with account leads, clients, and other media and digital strategists to develop and drive successful media campaigns and initiatives. The Director of Media Strategy is a smart communicator and well versed across multiple platforms and specialties.


They work independently and with teams to develop and execute strategic programs to support clients’ business objectives across a variety of accounts. They are directly involved in media outreach and/or social media campaigns to ensure the most successful outcome and maximum results. The Director of Media Strategy serves as an agency-wide resource, mentors others and plays a high visibility role in agency trainings. In addition, they participate in the continued success of the agency through active participation on the Leadership and Executive Teams, and formal career coaching within the agency. The number of accounts they work on will fluctuate depending upon budgets and client needs.

The Director of Media Strategy is expected to participate in, New Business initiatives, internal marketing efforts, events and the development of client messaging and positioning.

Desired Skills and Experience
Requirements:

7 – 12 years public relations, media relations, corporate communications (can be combined)
Well-developed, proven relationships with media
Demonstrated success with client media placements and coverage
Excellent writing and editing skills
Understands complex products, service and solutions
Able to lead and direct budgets, projects, programs and people
Strong program and project management skills
Preferably 2 – 3 years’ experience directly supervising individuals

Core Skills:

Project/Program Management: Consistently delivers and takes responsibility for overall success of the media program, strategy and execution on assigned accounts
Client Relations: Provides strategic input and counsel; Interacts with client executives; Develops and leads media coaching and training sessions
Media Relations: Identifies, develops, leads, and directs major media strategies and positioning; Oversees media crises, exclusives, cover stories, embargoes, etc.; Participates in managing events, such as high-level press dinners, roundtables, press conferences; Provides development opportunities for team members’ media relations skills; Actively seeks to develop new media & influencer relationships on behalf of all clients and agency; Oversees media strategy for news, product announcements and proactive media campaigns; Proactively engages in media outreach, to ensure maximum results; Acts as an agency resource and brand ambassador
Strategy: Develops and leads media strategies on account teams and agency wide; Consults and advises clients and internal teams
Content Creation: Writes and edits pitches and other materials; Develops and counsels clients on integrated campaigns
Speaker/Awards Program: Develops high-level messaging for presentation opportunities
Messaging/Positioning: Provides strategic insight and counsel for positioning/messaging
Account Management: Understands the importance of leveraging their contribution to achieve the best results possible within client budgets; Works with the team leadership to achieve these goals; May lead or co-lead teams; Is able to manage budget: Leads team media programs; Provides proactive thought leadership
Agency Roles: Is an agency wide media expert; Coaches individuals and teams; Leads or participates in media brainstorms; Drives media-related operations decisions and projects; Is an agency motivator; Provides constructive suggestions to teams/peers; Is readily deployable across accounts to deal with crises, tours, brainstorms, and any other media needs; Participates in new business process; Leads agency trainings; Plays a leadership role on taskforce(s); Provides input in hiring decisions; Conducts and provides input for annual reviews; Proactively mentors and provides feedback and constructive suggestions to teams/peers; Trains new employees
New Business: Participates in new business efforts; Contributes to presentation development, pitch strategy, determination of props; Creates proposals, plans, and budgets
