Translational Sciences and Technology (TST) is seeking an experienced scientist to assume leadership of the Genetically Engineered Mouse (GEM) Center. The GEM Center is a state of the art core program responsible for the design, production, use, and cryopreservation of rodent models supporting the Research and Discovery portfolio in the areas of neurology, immunology, tissue injury and fibrosis, hematology, and cell and gene therapy. The successful candidate will be responsible for scientific and operational management of the center. This will involve interaction with departmental and senior leaders in the research and discovery organization .This position reports to the VP of Research and Technology within TST


Scope and Responsibilities:
1. Management of the GEM center includes:
- Oversight of the in-house microinjection facility, cryopreservation and assisted reproduction, and rederivation programs.
- Responsibility for all aspects of the GEM breeding core program.
- Responsibility for all program outsourcing and external collaborations.
- Hands-on molecular Biology support to generate recombinant DNA constructs and provides genotyping support
- Providing strategic advice to project teams on using novel GEM for target and pathway validation as well as for novel in vivo animal model generation
- Collaborating with finance to establish and track budget requirements

2. The head of the GEM center will be a member of the Research Technology leadership team and will be expected to contribute to the development of strategic and operational plans of the department

3. The head of the GEM center is expected to attend and contribute to the Exploratory Research forums

Qualifications

-Track record of developing and applying state of the art transgenic technologies to generate novel GEM models for target and pathway validation and in vivo model generation
-Strong scientific credentials in transgenic and cryopreservation technologies
-Exceptional collaboration skills
-Budget and staff management experience and skills

Education

-PhD and/or DVM with 15+ years of experience in field of expertise.
