Position Summary:
It is a dynamic time for our company as we continue to drive long-term shareholder value by executing our core business, launching new products in the US and across International markets, and prosecuting our 2017 strategic goals (Building Blocks of Growth). The Director, Global Antibiotic Leadership, a new position for Cubist, will be a valued and active partner with the senior executive team and serve as the primary contact for a senior, cross-functional group focused on strengthening and improving the global antibiotics market. In addition, this position will provide leadership and direction to a cross-functional team on improving the reimbursement of antibiotics to more appropriately reflect their true value. Additionally, is accountable for contributing to the on-going development of our strategy and supporting tactics that will drive decision-making, execution and creating value that is transformative. The successful candidate will be an experienced professional that has a track record of impressive leadership and organizational skills, driving excellence, fostering collaboration in cross-functional working groups, outstanding analytical capabilities, broad industry awareness and a strong understanding of healthcare reimbursement policy.
Key Responsibilities :
Working with a senior level, cross-functional team (core team), develop, execute, and coordinate/communicate a multi-year, strategic initiative focused on improving/modernizing the antibiotics market. Such an initiative will include complex global issues such as rapid diagnostics, infection control, stewardship, reimbursement reform, and the role of patients.
Develop and apply innovation lessons/best practices from other areas within biotech/pharmaceutical industries specifically, and health care in general, to advance a modern antibiotic market development framework that balances high innovation with appropriate antibiotic stewardship.
Partner with/advise senior leaders of core team, including Cubist’s CEO and executives across R&D, Commercial, Government Affairs, Business Development, International, and Finance; ensure overall planning, process, and execution of core team and work streams are timely, accurate, and effective.
Develop and refine array of impactful organizational tools to help ensure success of core team and related work streams, including KPIs, dashboards/scorecards, and templates.
Lead broad work stream to improve the global policy environment for the reimbursement of antibiotics to better reflect their value to society, with focus on reforming global Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) and European Health Technology Assessments (HTA), as well as developing Cubist position on other forms of new business models; serve as primary catalyst around modeling, data generation, and literature review & publication of policy options, in partnership with colleagues in HEOR, pricing and reimbursement, and policy departments.
Drives the evaluation of the value opportunities, contributing with own in-depth knowledge, while leading the resolution/decisions to highly complex pathways.
Support and coordinate Cubist representation at major global forums on antimicrobial resistance, including before public health bodies, medical associations, think tanks, and trade associations.
Fosters a spirit of teamwork/chemistry among internal stakeholders while consciously creating a workplace culture that is consistent with Cubist’s culture and goals.
Minimum Basic Qualifications:
BA/BS degree required
Minimum of 12 years of experience in consulting, business development/strategy, commercial, clinical, public policy, or applicable experience
Minimum of 3 years with a biotech/pharmaceutical/healthcare company or related consulting firm
Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without the need for sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Advanced degree a plus, with preference for MBA (or PhD)
Five years with a biotech/pharmaceutical/ healthcare company or related consulting firm
Experience with/understanding of US and European reimbursement mechanisms (e.g., HTAs and DRGs)
Experience in project management in a global business context
Demonstrated expertise in working with and communicating/building relationships with senior executives, as well as key external stakeholders
Ability to communicate an accurate and in-depth knowledge of economics, biotechnology pricing/reimbursement, and science

Work Environment:
The position will be based in Lexington, MA office and report into Cubist’s SVP of Public Affairs.
Physical Demands:
10-20% travel
