Director - Engineering - Minted - San Francisco

Job description
Director of Engineering at Minted is broadly responsible for the systems that enable Minted to deliver world-class service and product quality while meeting profitability targets. This is a critical leadership role at Minted. We are seeking an individual who can be responsible for strategy, managing engineers toward deliverables, as well as perform hands-on coding.
What you’d be doing :
In collaboration with the executive management team, define requirements for technical systems in his or her area of responsibility
Serve as the interface to a team of engineers for marketing, product management, merchandising, customer service, design associates, and vendors in his or her area of responsibility
Ensure server performance and availability of webservers
Perform project management to ensure on-time delivery of projects with fast performance and minimal error rates, high scalability and good security
Serves as a leader, but can also be hands-on – writing code, conducting code reviews and technical design reviews and is able to trouble shoot with the team
Ensure that product architectural decisions will support goals of quality, performance/ scalability, reliability, availability, maintainability, and security

Work with executive management team to set priorities for projects
Manage engineers, including providing morale, career development, and mentorship
Recruiting/hiring of a high caliber technical team
Negotiate contracts with and manage relationship with all technical services providers

Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science; Master’s Degree, a plus
8 to 10 years of experience building software in roles of increasing responsibility and technical capability
Minimum three years of experience managing a team of 3+ engineers
Ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner
3+ years of experience building a high-volume, high-performance consumer website
3+ years of experience working with MySQL
In-depth understanding of computer science principles including data structures, programming languages, operating systems, software engineering, databases, hardware, and networking
Prior experience in a senior engineer or architect role with specific responsibility for system design and performance preferred
Experience working at a commerce software company is a plus
Experience with adobe illustrator or indesign is a plus
Experience with printing, photos, color management, computer graphics or fulfillment technology is a plus
