Director - Product Management - Gloval Vendor Management - Amazon - Seattle

Job description
Today, Amazon has websites in 10 countries where retail teams work to develop the largest selection possible at the best possible terms to benefit their customers. The Global Vendor Management (GVM) function was created to leverage the scale of Amazon’s global size to (1) grow and provide selection parity across all retail websites 2) with more favorable terms and 3) a better customer and vendor experience. GVM’s mission is to partner with retail and support teams around the world to leverage the global scale of Amazon’s manufacturer relationships to unlock local advantages for each country by working with these manufacturers in a more systematic and intentional manner. The initial focus was on improving selection and terms with larger global vendors; however, the intent has now expanded to enable similar benefits through systems and automation for all vendors. Our goal is to utilize people less and systems more through automation and process improvement. As a result, we need a strong leader to build a team and develop the products working with the technical teams to deliver this goal.

Currently, our systems for vendors and vendor managers work but have the opportunity to be enhanced so it is easier 1) for vendors to sign up with Amazon, start selling and manage their business and 2) it is easier for Amazon retail teams to manage leads and vendors efficiently. We would like to simplify and automate ways of working wherever it makes sense. We are confident that this is a large opportunity and we need to work differently. We believe that we can make massive increases in selection, particularly outside the US, by enabling partnerships with medium and small vendors and integrate their product portfolio into Amazon. We can also expand the selection and secure better terms with large global vendors with additional product developments.

Be at the center of innovation with GVM’s mandate. We are looking for an experienced Product Develper and Leader to build a team which will lead some of our biggest and most challenging product initiatives by working with technical teams to define and scope the necessary tools and workflows to take our vendor experience to the next level. This person should be an experienced product manager who is obsessed with collaborating with teams (technology and business) across Amazon globally to redefine the vendor manager and vendor experience and how we (Amazon and the Vendor) work together. Vendors are our partners and every interaction represents an opportunity to enhance and accelerate growth for a Vendor’s business with Amazon. Customer obsession translates into being passionate about delivering exceptional experiences and business value that delight Vendor Managers, Vendors, and enhances trust to our Vendor relationships.

You will invent retail and vendor experiences that leverage current systems, data, and networks, to build efficiency and and increase selection globally to drive customers to Amazon. We have already identified the key products that are in the process of being developed to reinvent the vendor experience and your job will be to further define the business requirements and partner with the tech teams and the retail teams to develop and launch these products.

We're looking for an incredibly strong individual who thinks big, effectively collaborates across multiple teams and is outstanding at delivering results. With a strong bias for action, this individual will be able to work equally well with engineering and business teams. At both an operational and strategic level, he / she will help define the growth strategy and structure of the products needed, working closely with senior business and technology leaders from our Consumer business, FBA, Retail Systems, Marketplace, TRMS, Customer Service, and other technology and service teams. The right person for this role will have ample experience working with software developers to define and build new technology and deliver outstanding customer experiences. You will be responsible for all aspects of developing and releasing new products including product strategy, product enhancements, business development, and financial projections. You will routinely present to senior leadership, so you must have excellent communication skills and impeccable judgement.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Global Vendor Management, the role is based in Seattle and requires occasional travel to global sites.

The Director Product Development, Global Vendor Management will be a key player in one of Amazon’s key strategic growth areas - vendor experience transformation to support increased selection in each market at targeted terms and global expansion for selection parity. This will reduce selection creation frictions by easing lead management and on-boarding processes, tracking vendor progress, offering improved self-service tools and pay-as-you-go services. These programs have preliminary scoping for tier 2 and tier 3 but need to be refined, tested and launched and expanded to tier 1 vendors. This effort will be the initial focus for this leader. The goal is to automate as much as possible with people involved only in areas where machines are not capable due to operational or growth considerations.
2. Establish retail and OPS team partnerships to make sure the new selection is made available to our customers in the most efficient way.
3. Build and manage a product management team to support the vendor experience transformation across markets and systems.
4. Define and establish product vision, goals, supporting business metrics, and success indicators for products focused on helping vendors and vendor managers be more efficient beyond what has already been identified
