Senior Manager - US State Public Policy - Amazon - Washington
Job description

The Senior Manager, US State Public Policy will join a growing, dynamic team and be able to immediately and directly enhance Amazon’s advocacy before US state and local policymakers. Like our business interests, our policy issues are broad, forward-thinking, and driven by what is best for our customers.
The Senior Manager will be a highly visible position that will create, execute and manage state government affairs objectives. Working with the Director of State Public Policy, the Senior Manager will develop Amazon positions on issues, communicate with state consultants and trade associations and represent the company at policymaker conferences.
The Senior Manager will work collaboratively and transparently with business units to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals. The Senior Manager will assess, anticipate and communicate public policy matters back to the business, develop mitigation or enhancement strategies and positions, and manage and coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives in concert with business objectives.
THIS POSITION COULD EITHER BE BASED IN WASHINGTON, DC OR SEATTLE, WASHINGTON BASED ON CANDIDATE PREFERENCE.
BA/BS required
8+ years of relevant experience with-and a keen working understanding of-the U.S. state/local policymaking process
Experience running multi-state public policy efforts
Experience creating and effectively delivering factual, relevant and easily understandable talking points and other messaging
Experience identifying and understanding key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understanding business implications, and synthesizing policy documents for internal and external customers
Demonstrated work experience with companies, consultancies, trade associations, or equivalent organization
Ability to travel domestically as needed
Juris Doctor or Master’s degree preferred
Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills - including superior skills in advocacy and using spoken and written rhetoric to persuade and inform
Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at the highest corporate and political levels
Ability to maintain the highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity
Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization
Ability to think critically, process data from multiple sources, forecast potential scenarios, prioritize based on probability and desired outcome, and recommend a best course of action
