Amazon’s Global Inventory Planning team is looking for a passionate, results-oriented, inventive, and technical leader to lead our efforts in building the next generation Supply Chain and Fulfillment solutions. This is a large scale role that is responsible for maximizing vendor performance and minimizing vendor lead times.

Our mission is to predict and control our vendors’ schedules, lead times, and item-level availabilities to optimize Amazon’s on-hand inventory levels and increase inventory turns without negatively impacting instock levels. We accomplish this by the creation and deployment of sophisticated machine learning algorithms that derive the theoretical capabilities of each vendor and automatically and systematically drive them towards optimum. You will be responsible for a cross-discipline team that consists of talented software developers and managers, machine learning and operations research experts and experienced product and program managers. This team has the potential to make a huge impact on overall Amazon inventory, measured in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Responsibilities include direct management of software engineers, research scientists and managers, improvements in process and quality of service, strategic planning, project management, and management of resources across teams. You will act as a leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. You are proactive in removing roadblocks, pave the way for innovation, and can handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. You are an experienced software development leader who understands and sets a high bar for all parts of the software development and deployment lifecycle, including design, development, documentation, testing and operations. You work hand-in-hand with business partners, understand their needs and are able to translate business necessities into value-added features. You are able to handle business escalations with a data-driven approach.

Key Responsibilities:
Foster culture of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics

Mentor and promote your team members
BS in Computer Science with at least 10 years of industry experience.
At least 6 years of experience managing enterprise/mission critical software engineering teams.
Technically credible to lead a team of world class software engineers and development managers and be able to deliver the right product with a scalable engineering design.
The ability to achieve results in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment is critical.
A passion for people management and mentorship; hiring and developing great people
Able to balance technical leadership with sound business judgment.
MS in Computer Science
Experience with analytics
Has passion and convictions and the innate ability to inspire passion in others
Thinks strategically, but stays on top of tactical execution
