Director - Engineering - Baxter Healthcare - Thousand Oaks
Job description
This position is for an Engineering leader with the ability to establish a vision for an organization and then flawlessly execute towards that vision while utilizing solid engineering methodology. He or she will provide leadership and supervision to a team of managers, superintendents and supervisors while maintaining responsibility for the implementation of all activities within the department. The primary focus of this role is to ensure plant specific engineering goals (safety, compliance, fulfillment, and financial) are achieved through the efficient use of resources.
This key leader will be a member of the Site Leadership Team. He or She will have responsibility for the following engineering teams:
• Equipment validation (center led)
• Process Controls
• Critical Systems
• Capital budgeting for the site
• Plant engineering (including plant shutdown execution)
• Primary contact between the plant and the center led divisional engineering structure including site specific facilities and maintenance team responsibilities
• Packaging and packaging validation engineering (center led)
The incoming individual should possess significant technical expertise, with the ability to review and drive complex projects, programs and design concepts through the engineering technical staff. He or she will be accountable for supporting the delivery of a quality product in addition to full cost center and budgeting responsibility in alignment with the site manufacturing plan. This individual is a key partner with the Plant Manager and all functional groups at the facility, as well as within the divisional Global Functions.
He or she will be accountable to drive results through their leadership team, including planning and reviewing staff resource requirements to successfully meet current and future site goals. This will also include a strong drive for continuous improvement strategies to meet existing and planned commitments. He or she will ensure a dedicated focus is placed on adherence to budgets, schedules and performance metrics as applicable with the ability to foster an environment of creativity and innovation supporting the development of a high performing team.
Desired Skills and Experience
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Provides strategic vision and site leadership by setting priorities based upon the plants existing deliverables as well as corporate objectives by anticipating and applying industry standards and emerging technologies.
2. Develop and align an engineering site vision of the organizations contribution to the divisional goals.
3. Maximize the effectiveness of internal and external resources to meet business objectives.
4. Utilize a broad knowledge base and experience within cross-functional team environments to coordinate and direct the activities of multiple engineering teams and individual contributors to meet plant objectives and prepare for future expansion.
5. Create and maintain an environment where team members experience personal and professional growth and drive towards becoming a high performing team.
6. Responsible for Final Approval on product/process documentation.
7. Responsible for the review and approval of proposals to determine if benefits achieved justify expenditures. Must be comfortable presenting proposals to senior management for consideration and allocation of funds. Responsible for preparation of project cost estimates up to the multi-million dollar range. Directs all project expenditures and cost tracking.
8. Ensure adequate resources are available to achieve site specific engineering deliverables.
9. May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
•Must possess strong knowledge of engineering operations (e.g. facilities, utilities, maintenance, and design).
•Experience managing engineering operations in a manufacturing environment.
•Experience with Quality Systems and Processes within an FDA regulated manufacturing setting.
•Demonstrated understanding of business drivers, customer needs and multi-s.
