Director - Acoustics Engineering - GoPro - San Francisco


Job description
The Role:
GoPro is already well known for their ability to capture and share high quality images. The Director of Acoustics Engineering will grow the Audio Team to produce versatile, durable acoustics systems in our products.

You’ll work with the design and engineering teams to specify, design and validate any system required in an acoustic system, and you’ll collaborate with GoPro partners and suppliers to develop components for future product generations.

We’re excited to grow our audio team, and you’ll play a pivotal point in our product development and engineering.

Here are some specific things you'll lead:
• You’ll architect, design and implement acoustic solutions in our products.
• You’ll investigate, study and introduce new designs with “state of the art” acoustic components.
• You’ll establish and grow an acoustic team, which will include testers, acoustic, DSP, hardware and codec engineers and the full laboratory.
• You’ll develop high-volume, low cost and high performance acoustic designs, and support the product from concept through manufacturing bring-up.
• You’ll specify audio and acoustic standards, and collaborate with Mechanical, Firmware and Software teams to assure best design trade-offs.

Desired Skills and Experience
Our Ideal Candidate:
Is someone who’s led engineering and design for acoustics components in revolutionary consumer electronics. We're particularly interested in candidates who’ve designed microphones and other acoustic systems in products that people can hold and touch.

Here are a few other things we’d be thrilled to see in a strong candidate:
• You have 5+ years of experience in acoustics and audio engineering for consumer products, where you’ve worked in a multidisciplinary team from design to production.
• You have a BS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering or in a related field.
• You work frequently with audio editing tools including Goldwave, Audacity, Audio Audition, Cool Edit.
• You’re comfortable working with engineering tools like Matlab, Solidworks, Flowworks and DSP code development.
• You have a strong understanding of acoustics fundamentals like sampling theory, frequency analysis, room acoustics, microphone basics and psychoacoustics.
