Director - Program Management - Proskauer Rose LLP - New York


Job description
The Director of Program Management is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of technology projects that have firm-wide and departmental impacts. This individual will report into the Firm’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) and manage a team of project managers. This person is expected to have frequent interaction with the Firm's Directors, Chiefs, Partners, and IT management in order to ensure alignment of the Firm's project portfolio and priorities with the Firm's business requirements.

Within this role, the director is responsible for IT program and project management, including status reports, project plans, risk analysis, cost management, resource planning, project management methodology, and is expected to be hands-on to assure projects are delivered on time and on budget.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Engage directly with the business and IT to understand the business objectives and requirements and translate them into delivery plans
Drive best practices in project management to ensure project and operational goals are met or exceeded and projects are delivered on schedule and on budget
Responsible for leadership and direction of the company's project management organization, including directing the staff of Project Managers
Prepare and ensure project management methodologies, professional and quality standards and guidelines, and planning and reporting templates are maintained
Recruit, hire, coach, direct, appraise, and develop project management department staff
Ensures support of department and company initiatives through appropriate project management disciplines and tools. Provides both formal and informal instruction and guidance on PMO methodologies.
Develops new processes to supplement and improve current operations
Ensure formulation and execution of project management plans and budgets consistent with and supportive of the firm objectives.
Manage professional business relations with vendors including review of contracts and statements of work
Manage IT-related projects on behalf of the firm’s global offices and departments - IT, Human Resources, Professional Development, Marketing & Business Development, Finance and Legal.
Prioritize, initiate, plan, execute and bring projects to a successful and timely completion, while keeping all stakeholders, sponsors and project teams informed.
Assist the CIO with budgeting, capital and expense management
Work with IT management to coordinate internal resources to ensure that the resources are allocated properly to projects, and facilitate and coordinate between departments and offices to meet program objectives
Report and provide visibility to the IT project portfolio and communicate, as appropriate, the status of key projects to the firm
Develop business case materials, return on investment (ROI) information, project budgets, communication plans, presentations and project related materials and deliverables as needed

Desired Skills and Experience
The suitable candidate must demonstrate 10 to 15 years of IT project management experience managing diverse and large scale programs working in a complex stakeholder environment with staff management. The Director must have demonstrated leadership, expertise in program management, experience managing multiple projects, expertise in strategic planning, effective expense management, excellent communications skills, and a demonstrated ability to create and implement a vision for the PMO. The Candidate must have extensive experience organizing and prioritizing multiple complex projects including technical projects and business process re-engineering.

The Director must have solid experience interacting and communicating effectively across all levels of an organization. Strong management, interpersonal, customer service, change management, business analysis, process engineering, presentation and organizational skills are a must. Candidate must have technical knowledge of IT infrastructure and operations, software development life-cycle, IT technology integration and a proven track record on managing highly technical IT project portfolios. A Bachelor’s Degree and PMP certification is required.
