Job description
As part of the Personal Investing (PI) organization, the Customer Knowledge and Strategic Insight (CKSI) group sheds light on investor behavior and attitudes to identify opportunities for growth and improvement. The emergence of Big Data technologies and techniques has provided tremendous opportunity to analyze and understand these behaviors across a multitude of factors, products, and interactions. We are looking for a highly qualified and forward thinking, strategic Data Scientist to help further our capabilities in this area and deliver exceptional value to the business.

Reporting to the Data Science Practice Lead, the Data Scientist will join a world-class marketing analytics team. S/He will be tasked with providing statistical analysis, forecasting, predictive modeling, simulation, and optimization. They will leverage Big Data mining and analysis strategies to understand customer needs, provide business insights, improve targeting, maximize return on investment, and optimize marketing efforts.

This position requires the ability to: propose and deliver solutions as a subject matter expert; develop methodologies; and serve as a strong business communicator with senior leaders, sponsors, peers, and suppliers.

Primary Responsibilities
Leverage big data to solve strategic, tactical, structured, and unstructured business problems
Collaborate with client and analytic teams to set analytic objectives, approaches, and work plans
Research and evaluate new analytical methodologies, approaches, and solutions
Analyze customer and economic trends that impact marketing/business performance and recommend ways to improve outcomes
Develop statistical forecasting models and tools
Interpret and communicate analytic results to analytical and non-analytical business partners and executive decision makers

Desired Skills and Experience
Education and Experience
Advanced degree in applied statistics, mathematics, management science, engineering, economics, computer science, social science, or operations research (Master’s degree required, PhD preferred)
10+ years experience in advanced analytics, model building, and marketing optimization
Experience working with big data and real time/near real time analytics and big data platforms like Hadoop
Experience with data manipulation and analysis using SQL, noSQL, Java, C, SAS EGuide, MapReduce, PIG, HIVE, Python, SAS, SAS HPA, SAS Visual Analytics, SAS EMiner, Salford TreeNet, R, and machine learning approaches such as Mahout
Skills and Knowledge
Expertise in text and sentiment analysis
Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of analytical techniques including:
segmentation creation
mix and time series modeling
response modeling
lift modeling
experimental design
neural networks
data mining
optimization techniques
Self-directed and able to proactively manage complex projects unsupervised
Strong critical thinking, consensus-building, and influencing skills
Exceptional communication and presentation skills
