Job description
The Director of Payroll Accounting is responsible for overseeing the development and control of all tasks necessary to accurately and timely process employee and player payrolls. Additionally, this position administers all Club defined benefit plans and defined contribution plans. The position reports to the Vice President of Finance and Administration and supervises 1.5 staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees the compensation and retirement benefits for +200 full-time and +1000 seasonal employees.
Ensures the accuracy of the Major League Player payroll and determines that all associated taxes have been calculated correctly and forwarded to the appropriate taxing jurisdictions.
Determines that all players signing, performance and other award bonuses are accurately taxed and allocated to states/cities as applicable.
Assures that all employee and player taxable fringe benefits are accurately compiled, paid, and taxed.
Communicates with player agents to coordinate payment arrangements and tax withholdings. Responds timely to any inquiries or requests that have been authorized by player during the course of the baseball season and year end.
Determines employee eligibility for the Club’s defined contribution and defined benefit plans and calculates the eligible employee earnings for each plan.
Ensures that employee contributions to the defined contribution plan are accurately withheld and funds are timely forwarded to the plan trustee. Oversee the maintenance of all new hires, rehires, rollovers, and payouts.
Reviews employee and player contributions to the defined contribution plan to ensure compliance with the plan requirements and IRS regulations.
Maintains a schedule of all player union deductions and ensure the accurate withholding and forwarding of the dues.
Compiles and inputs information required for the annual discriminating testing of the defined contribution plan.
Serves as point person for defined contribution plan audit and responsible for annual IRS Form 5500 filing.
Oversees the accurate and timely completion of employee W-2 forms including the calculation of all employee and player taxable fringe benefits.
Determines that salaries, associated taxes, and retirement benefits costs are accurately recorded in the Club’s financial statements.
Qualifications/Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Five to seven years of payroll and/or finance experience preferred.
Multi-jurisdiction tax knowledge preferred and international knowledge a plus.
Experience is using ADP WorkforceNow is preferred
Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word and Excel
Detail oriented and able to work in high-pressure environment
Strong time management, organizational and customer service skills
Effective writing, telephone and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently or in a team environment and prioritize and handle multiple projects
