Director - Human Capital Technology - Amtrak - Washington


Job description
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Director of Human Capital (HC) Technology is responsible for overseeing and managing the maintenance, implementation,
integration, and utilization of Amtrak’s SAP HC enterprise systems to help achieve current and future business needs. Researches and develops HCM technology business proposals and evaluates and recommends new technology applications or enhancements. Critical to this individual’s success is his/her ability to establish strategic relationships with IT and Amtrak’s SAP user community to help clients understand and effectively utilize SAP. Provides technology guidance and/or instruction to clients that have separate, ad-hoc employee data systems. Responsible for developing and managing a Human Capital technology team at the corporate level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Partners with IT to implement SAP upgrades, including testing, user communication and rollout
Works with clients to assess their data needs and advises and/or assists clients with business workflow processes associated with utilizing SAP HR applications
Directs HC’s report generation function to ensure that client reports are produced according to specifications, including appropriate layout presentation. Also trains and/or familiarizes user community with report generation features to enable the client to become self-sufficient in developing and generating their own reports
Serves as an advisor to change management practices and understands knowledge transfer and communication techniques to help drive a change management focus among SAP users and management
Collaborates with IT to review all requests for ad-hoc systems that primarily store business specific employee data to ascertain if client needs can be met via existing SAP applications
Works with clients (and IT) to ensure that ad-hoc human resources systems are properly implemented, including development of documentation, training, processes, and/or tools required for maximum utilization
Partners with IT, Payroll and Finance technology liaisons to discuss and resolve employee master data requirements necessary to execute changes to Payroll and/or Financial applications
Serves as the Human Capital department’s technology advisor in suggesting where it is most appropriate to apply technology solutions pertaining to any of HR’s functional areas, i.e., benefits, recruitment, health services, training, compensation, etc
Manages vendor relations to ensure smooth working relationships and adherence to service agreements
Seeks ways to regularly enhance user community understanding of SAP and other people management technology applications
Stays abreast of HC technology best practices as well as emerging trends
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; or the combination of education and experience that enables performance in all aspects of the position.

Requires extensive years of relevant experience
Demonstrated experience managing a team of direct reports
Strong leadership skills particularly in areas of visioning, planning and execution of business strategy. Able to inspire and motivate team members and peers. Maintains strategic relationships with business partners (i.e., IT, Finance, etc)
Assumes accountability for results. Proactively conducts technology applications risk assessments and manages risks
Develops a point of view and is able to effectively communicate this to others
Able to accurately define and lead change initiatives working in partnership with the OELD’s change management team and is able to generate business buy-in related to technology support initiatives
Demonstrates a strong strategic focus and has an ability to establish and align tactical outcomes with the strategy to address business needs
A working knowledge of SAP HCMS applications/products and/or experience with other HR ERP systems; experience with personal computer applications (MS Office Suite).
Able to apply problem resolution skills to effectively address technology related business issues; able to apply ROI approach to new technology enhancements
Requires ability to communicate with technical and non-technical users.
Experience with coordinating and facilitating application training to the user community
Strong project management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and report writing

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of general Human Capital practices.
